£300 hybrid recommendations

Hi all

It appears I have got to that age where the idea of a Hybrid bike seems more and more appealing

What are peoples recommendations for a £300 hybrid for the daily commute, a few trips along canal paths with the kids etc ?

I quite like the look of the 2014 Giant Escape 3, or something like the old Specialised Sirrus ?

Anyone ride a £300 hybrid that can give any reviews, would like it too last a few years too

How about a classic like a Marin Sausalito?

I rode one over 20k touring and it didn't break a sweat.

Otherwise, just about any current frame you enjoy with a switch over to slicks, or something near slick, and some mudguards.

For that amount of money you could buy a Carrera Subway from Halfords as their selling for around £270 atm and their pretty decent machines from what i've heard but at the end of the day all you need is a more upright seating position by changing your existing handle bar stem and change to slick tyres like highlandsflyer has mentioned ..

My friend bought the Dew, great VFM! Old stock though, which possibly explains why his freehub started sticking after 3 weeks use. To their credit however Wiggle paid for it to be fixed.
