Just got a nice letter through my door to tell me that my $515usd frame I won on ebay has a £115 customs charge- wow is this right? I've paid upto £65 before now but this one seems steep as hell :(

Ouch ! Not sure if he might have put a huge insurance value on it
on the parcel label. They might have picked up on.

My auntie sends stuff from Canada and always puts on label its worth
peanuts otherwise customs jump on it.

if over the value of £18 and out side the EU then VAT is charged (between indivials) and over £135 for import duty plus the post office charge anther £8.
That's what all my customs stickers have on them when i get them.

Non charged if a gift under £40 value.

But not if fags & alcohol.

Phew, thats steep! The only real way around it is to get the person sending it as a cheaper item than it really is..... Is risky for someone you don't know but I have a chap I know in Maine who is happy to send stuff on to me. My $1200 clutch arrived as a $20 cast iron BBQ set. :D

I just asked at the customs HQ and apparently in lucky, they have charged me vat on the shipping cost @$157 aswell. My lucky day or what?!

It's a lottery if you get caught. On Saturday i had a mech arrive from West Coast USA with no customs id and it got to me with no charges in a week.

Today pulley wheels cost £11 then add VAT then £8 po charges

Plus customs can delay items for weeks and weeks

that sucks craig.......as has been said, at least a mugger would have the decency to look you in the eye as he demands your shirt!!....
