Just got a nice letter through my door to tell me that my $515usd frame I won on ebay has a £115 customs charge- wow is this right? I've paid upto £65 before now but this one seems steep as hell
if over the value of £18 and out side the EU then VAT is charged (between indivials) and over £135 for import duty plus the post office charge anther £8.
That's what all my customs stickers have on them when i get them.
Phew, thats steep! The only real way around it is to get the person sending it as a cheaper item than it really is..... Is risky for someone you don't know but I have a chap I know in Maine who is happy to send stuff on to me. My $1200 clutch arrived as a $20 cast iron BBQ set.
