    Tubs for 27inch wheels

25" is 635mm but it depends where you measured that. 700c is 622mm at the base of the rim - the bottom of the tyre groove. I'm reasonably sure a Fiamme rim would be 700c. Here's a table of polished silver tubular rims I made recently - they are all 700c

    Tubs for 27inch wheels

I use tubulars but they're all 700C, Sheldon Brown has "Full-sized tubulars fit rims of the same diameter as 622 mm (700c) clinchers. This size is sometimes referred to as "28 inch" or "700". It is also, confusingly, sometimes referred to as "27 inch." The "27 inch" designation is inaccurate...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

This one was advertised as flamboyant magenta, turns out it's actually cromovelato magenta. I just love the colour, but a bit tricky to repaint.

    Lightest Steel Frame?

Just going to mention my new project: 1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind 23", frame 1940g, forks 775g but missing everything including a lot of the paint Pretty good for 1953, and the lightest of my frames.

Best Non Aero levers and cantilevers

I like the Weinmann AG drilled levers: https://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=B4CA83EE-23D9-4FDE-9AE9-CDE3F58E22BA&Enum=118&AbsPos=7 There's one variation with quick release which just gives enough room to remove my 28mm tubulars. NB. You can set the toe-in on the Mafac Racers by making...

    Holdsworth builders mark ?

Hiya Folks, I've got a 1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind in cromovelato magenta I'm planning a complete rebuild for. But while cleaning it I think I've found the frame builders mark: "M" on the steerer. Just for historic interest does anybody know who "M" was ?

Best vintage rear derailleur (thats fairly easily available) for friction

I'm going to suggest SunTour Cyclone II GT I'm using one for 52/36 + 13-32: max cog 32, wrap 35 but the spec is max cog 34. wrap 34. weight 172g https://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=374d02a0-8e7d-43fd-8ae3-a04877256f81&Enum=108 You can get it to do 8 speed cassette but you may need to...

    Gearing for old legs

I'm running Stronglight 49D 52/36 with SunTour ultra 6 13-32 freewheel on the back (120mm OLD - 5 speed). SunTour Cyclone II GT derailleur handles it fine. Giving 36/32 as my granny gear, working quite well so far. As you probably know you can get new TA Cyclotourist chainrings: outer 52-42 +...

    Holdsworth Whirlwind - Cambridge

It just sold for £436 + no postage. Up from £127 with 5 mins to go. I'm happy - mine has more rust but was £61 cheaper, so both prices probably about right.

    Holdsworth Whirlwind - Cambridge

It's called magenta officially. It's a damn fine colour, and if the girls want to admire it I've got no issue.

    Holdsworth Whirlwind - Cambridge

I'm definitely out. Currently documenting a fine flamboyant magenta 23" Whirlwind :) It's a damn fine colour.

    Holdsworth Whirlwind - Cambridge

The upside to this one is it's collection only. That will reduce the bids a lot so if you can get to Cambridge it could be a bargain. I don't know about reserves, but you usually get a dealer bidding with 5 seconds to go (automated bidding) So that will push it up to a reasonable price, and I'm...

    1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind

I've got previous with painting lugs so I'm in with a chance. Hand painted with a brush, about 10 layers of paint and varnish (there's metal flake in the red):

    1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind

Cheers, I'll get the frame this week and I can see what needs doing. It seems to have chromed head lugs which I didn't realise was an option. I'm also guessing the rear can handle 120mm or be cold set easily, I don't know what the OLD was in 1953. My main ride is a 1961 Cyclone with Stronglight...

    1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind

Sold :) It's my (state) retirement present. And you can still get magenta flamboyant brush enamel: https://www.handover.co.uk/handover-flamboyant-enamel-paint-250ml-magenta/ Should be interesting.
