93 Rockhopper Shimano Cues compatibility advice.

There’s no reason to believe CUES will outlast alivio. I have alivio derailleurs and shifters older than my marriage. My Yamaha e-bike comes with an alivio casette and that’s a 250w mid-drive 25kg bike. If you pair a 34t front with a 11-36 casette you’ll be spinning for days.

Picked 2 of them up so far this November, the 89 rockhopper (top, obvs) is a beach city rust bucket and has me worried. The ‘98 rockhopper FS (bottom, obvs) will be a kid’s birthday gift next year and I’m excited to build a Taiwan bike for a half Taiwanese rider. Thinking maybe fox forks and...

93 Rockhopper Shimano Cues compatibility advice.

Pic 1 is gorgeous, but why CUES? And not just a standard Alivio 9 speed? I just got a Rockhopper a couple of years older and I'm just sticking to the standard deore 9 speed bits.

    1991 Marin Team Marin

apologies, i was dumb, read that as front "brake" not front derailleur. My team marin uses "Fuji ultralight" triple butted tubing, is the Prestige set suppose to be lighter?

    1995 Gary Fisher Aquila

appreciate someone even responding. This week, after posting that Aquila find, I picked up an '89 and a '98 Rockhopper, so I'll be focusing on those this winter. The '89 is ... NOT LOOKING GOOD.

Newbie 1991 GT Tequesta Build - help!

thanks for that. I double checked the '92 catalog and can confirm mine is a '92 (USA bike) in the "alternate" colorway. in '92, Tequesa switched away from suntour/sr and went to the Shimano camp...

    GT Tequesta 1992

thanks for even commenting. I double chceked the '92 catalog and it is indeed a '92! Mystery solved. I also found out someone hammmered a 26.8 bmx seatpost into the 26.4mm collar and had to go to the bicycle co-op to pull the seat post out with a vice. Already put a specialized alumi handle bar...

    GT Tequesta 1992

I just got the exact frame/color (I think it's a 16" not an 18" though, uncertain how GT measures seat tube still.) and your build is great inspo. Would you happen to know what the new weight is after all the weenie parts were tossed on? I see my handlebar is also steel (and rusty), that...

Newbie 1991 GT Tequesta Build - help!

bringing a thread back from the dead, I see '91 tequesta is suppose to have SR/Suntour/Sugino groups instead of Shimano, but all of my drivetrain has been swapped to Shimano (both RD, both shifters, and crank). That means the bike was modified, correct? TIA.

Rock Shox Quadra 21 Elastomer - UK suppler

That’s amazing. I checked the manual (duh!!!) and you were spot-on! So if I order 24” I should have perfect amount to do 2 shocks just by cutting them into 1/4”. Thanks! Very cool. Thanks for the tip. I found some PolyU rods with 20mm OD and 8mm OD but the duro is a whopping 75 sh A and looks...

Rock Shox Quadra 21 Elastomer - UK suppler

I want to replicate your build as I found some enough 50A elastomers (the rider is only 50Kg) for 2 quadra21s I have. Do you remember the length of each section you ended up measuring? TIA.
