    If I put '92 XT kit on a '94 (?) frame...

In my experience of running all sorts of kit from LX through XT and XTR M900 (which is still the best group set there ever was - IMHO) but running things from the same group set gives you smoother and sharper performance. So, seeing as you've got pretty much all XT gear I'd go with that. And if...

    93 Marin Technical Question

Re: Hi, If it were me with this issue here's what I would do. 1. Make absolutely sure that I've got the BB in correctly and seated properly. 2. Check the clearance of the old chainset against the new to make sure that it it definitely the new chainset. 3. If it's the new chainset, then I...

1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail - Restoration

Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated. I polished the cranks and the chain rings, the Onza HO brakes on the front and lastly, the Maniotu 3 forks. I will also use the polish to clean up anything else I put on to the bike to remove small blemishes etc. The decals are from Gil and yes...

    Polishing a Marin IFT

Re: Hi, I've recently restored a Marin IFT and spent many hours polishing it. The process I followed is this. 1. Wet and dry emery paper from 400 grit all the way to 4000 2. Aluminum foil with autosol 3. Autosol with a soft cloth 4. Jewelers rouge (green) on a soft cloth The last step gives...

1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail - Restoration

Hey forum buddies, just thought I'd give you all an update on this restoration project. After many many months of doing stuff all on this, I finally pulled my finger out and got on with it. I spent a few days polishing the frame using aluminum foil with autosol and then I discovered jewelers...

1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail - Restoration

Hi vinnya77, I used regular paint stripper for stripping acrylic vehicle paint. It took a few coats and I used a plastic scraper and wire wool. It wasn't easy

1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail - Restoration

So, this weekend I stripped down my 1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail that I had been using in a cyclocross format for about two years, and managed to get the X-Lite seat post out that has been in there since I built it for the first time in early 1996 - so twenty years! It was tough, a nightmare...

    KLEIN Attitude "storm"

I was suggesting that the BB unit may be seized into the BB shell, not the spindles. The bearings in those old BB are bullet proof. And the reason I thought that it could be seized is this. 1. it is an old bike frame - not always true, but just an indication 2. Why sell the frame with a...

    KLEIN Attitude "storm"

top tip to any potential buyers. Ask the seller to remove the BB. I would reckon that it could well be seized in there so careful removal is required. Speaking from hard earned experience :(

    1995 Marin Indian Fire Trail

Hi, I'm an IFT fan. It was love at first sight and I finally got to own one back in 1996/7 and still have it (a 1995 model) today. I raced on it and rode it regularly. In fact, I sold it once and bought it back and was so relieved. I used it to commute to work on every day for a few years...
