    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

Cheers! I haven't touched the bike since it was finished. It's been locked away in the garage out of harm's way. Very tempted to sell it, although I doubt I'd get what I put into it.

    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

I didn't really keep tabs on what I was spending, but I reckon the entire project probably set me back around £500… Not much less than the bike cost me back in 1990!

Marin Zolatone appreciation and info thread!

Hi Matt, I really couldn't say, because we went through four or five attempts to get mine right, so I ended up paying far more than expected. Now that the texture process is sorted, though, all you'd need to agree on is the correct colour code, so your final bill should be far less than mine...

Yes, the brake pads need setting correctly, but what's wrong with the cabling? It all works fine.

'90 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED!!!

Re: '90 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED! Yes, although it was really nice to receive a few NOS parts in the post, it was also great stripping down the chainset, brakes and derailleur and tidying them up. The enthusiasm waned by Christmas, but up until then I was flying! :D

'90 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED!!!

Re: '91 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED! No, I bought that bike new from F W Evans in Woking in the summer of 1991. 1989 was light grey painted, 1990 light grey zolatone, 1991 dark grey zolatone.

'90 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED!!!

Re: '91 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED! Yeah, y'know, I never even looked at that. I threw the saddle on before Christmas and have spent ever since focussed on cleaning up the brakes and reassembling the cable system. I haven't sat on the bike since last summer, the saddle...

'90 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED!!!

Re: '91 Zolatone Marin Pine Mountain restoration - FINISHED! Ahh, well... if I was going to ride it, I wouldn't be worrying about aesthetics, as that just won't come into things if I'm going for an accurate biomechanical fit.... Seatpost height for correct leg/knee extension; saddle position...
