Not vintage or French, Worldwide Tourers, Campeurs, Porteurs, Audax, Randonneurs, Commuters

Must have been a pretty quiet day at the office for someone to suggest they should cast that into the inside of the lever.

what to go for, touring or hybrid

I'm 6'2" and ride a 62cm CTC tourer with a 58cm top tube. I would have thought at 6 foot you had a choice of 56/58/60 cm frames. A 56 or 58 with a raised stem and seatpost isn't going to look freaky and the longer seat post will give more space for a big saddle bag or tall items like sleeping...

my new project - 1988 Raleigh Quadra

Selle Royal Trithalon or the Iscaselle Polo were the brochure saddles for the series 1 and series 2 respectively. Looks like they either ran out on the line or switched over for another reason.

    Peugeot Comete Sprint

The Comete was sold in 1987-89 in the UK I believe. From the looks it doesn't look too broke! The fork should have a recessed allen key type brake fixing - the nut on there now is most likely over an adapter. You should be able to fit some newer, allen key brakes. I would think about moving...

Removing enamel painted on top of the original paint. Any tips?

I would try a demel with a copper brush and go slow and steady. You will probably still have to live with either a trace of enamel of some minor chewing of the paint below. I suppose if you got lucky there would be a nice thick layer of laquer between the enamel and base coat - which would mean...

    Raleigh losses.

You make a good point about the supply chain jobs that are below the headline. Borg Warner, Ford, Lucas - all massive concerns in their own right. A bike assembly line is way smaller than most of those second tier suppliers. In the past there was (poncey word alert) the ecosystem of auto, aero...

Maybe the owner got suckered into the Flemish massive stem club? Becomes an arms race..literally.

    Italian threaded....... Headset?

I think the crown race size is the crucial part. According to Sheldon the angle the threads are cut at is 5 degrees shallower than ISO (60 degrees). What does this mean in practice? Very little, as long as you're not using steel threaded headset parts. You might face slighly higher resistance...

my new project - 1988 Raleigh Quadra

There is also Belgom ALU which leaves a bit of a microscopic waxy deposit behind - meaning you're not chained to a polishing ritual forever. Using Autosol and Belgom neat and not resorting to 2000 grit paper and polishing wheels is fine for taking out blemishes like this. It bugs me the amount...

I did see these. I've bought small items from this guy and he offers a great service...I don't know, I am suspicious of the quality given the price.
