Students to who ride nice 'classics' to college....

I suspect to these students or pupils they're just old bikes. Just like the MTB up thread is just a random old mountain bike to me as I have zero interest in MTBs.

The dodgy world of used ("vintage") bike parts

I suppose technically "NOS" is not the same as perfect mint condition, but just unused and new. You could have a part that has been fitted and used very slightly and it wouldn't be NOS anymore but it would be in as new condition when it's on the bike. When buying something not in person, you...

    Debris in frame?

I've got a custom built frame with something inside the top tube. As mentioned, it's not uncommon, but a bit annoying.

    Bikes seen out and about

No it's not a good idea; the nice purple anodising will get scratched up! With that frame size and set-up the owner's knees must be hitting the bars every time they get out of the saddle.

    Gios Lite c2000

There are some differences. No cutout in the lower head lug: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0EL4iQdWrYE/T ... C03777.JPG Top of seat stay seems to be lower on the seat lug: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0EL4iQdWrYE/T ... C03782.JPG

This frame might be an Alec Bird but is NOT a Carlton!

I'm just saying the name on the frame is not necessarily the shop/framebuilder/company who built the frame, although an original tubing sticker would mean it's less likely it's been resprayed but it wouldn't rule it out.

This frame might be an Alec Bird but is NOT a Carlton!

The bend on your forks start about halfway down then straightens out very quickly, ie the lower half of the blades are straight. Whereas Enger's forks has the bend much lower down, near the dropouts. Also, many shops and framebuilders when they do or arrange a respray put their own...

How to wrap COTTON handlebar tape correctly?

I always start at the bar ends because the edges above the levers then face down.

Raleigh 125th anniversary special Record Ace

That rack is most likely a saddlebag support. I really don't like "retro" style bikes with the modern frame sizing/set-up.

    removed, sorry

If this a one off frame custom built by Colnago for a customer, then it must have been specced without any of the identifying features of a Colnago frame except possibly for the head lugs cut outs and even those look a bit different from the ones I've seen! Some unusual points: internal...

    Translucent tyres?

It looks like "trans - black" means amberwall, "black" means all black. I guess "translucent" means the rubber on the sidewall is not an opaque colour. I hope they haven't added a "classic" to the name so they can charge more for the same tyre.
