Mmmm, I think you’re right! It’s very snug and specific! Appreciate the effort mate, never know I might get lucky or come across another headset. The cups are in really lovely condition so if I can find a black one that’s less interesting then perhaps it’s a possibility!

I can try to measure the diameter of tapered part, I also will try the race from another Rf headset to see if the angle of the taper is similar

So definitely quite the double trouble yet somehow I’m oddly not deterred 🤣 Having said that if anyone has another headset that I could use for parts that’d be great, blind optimism, I do that as well!

I’ve just tried a couple of random Races and as you say the taper has the match the bearing. Incidentally of the ones I did try, the worst problem was the diameter of the taper not matching the bearing (too small) so not making contact.

I’d already checked with owner before posting if they mistakenly left the crown race on the fork which they hadn’t. It’s in really nice condition so really want to find a way to use it! Has anyone tried running a different brand of race crown to the original or is this asking for trouble?

I couldn’t find any exploded diagrams but think it’s a splash guard, then the crown race ridge would ride on the bearing with this plastic part sitting flush on the other plate of race. Thanks for confirming, thought I might be going mad.

Fits pretty snugly. Obviously I’ve not fitted it but my main concern would be that it would either bind or wear if the bearing gives any kind of resistance?

Yes rare indeed! I’m thinking finding a set is a long shot! After seeing your build I’m tempted to use a Marzocchi, they look pretty sweet! These are a 2000 model tho right? Not sure if my OCD will allow such use on a 98 build tho 😂 They do look better than a 98 in my opinion with chrome mag...
