Raceface headset!

Hello good people of Retrobike forum!

So hoping someone on here has some knowledge of the Raceface sl headset!

Essentially I bought a really nice condition one in red and I’m not exactly sure if it’s missing the base plate as it came with a plastic one instead of the usual metal ones!

I’ve had a few real seal and thermo sp Raceface headsets and these have a metal base plate/crown race but are much larger headset cups so not compatible!

Any experience or help welcome!

I can't believe that ANY headset had a plastic crown race.

This was my general thought process but I thought I would ask the question incase anyone ideally have the exact headset model

Fits pretty snugly.
Obviously I’ve not fitted it but my main concern would be that it would either bind or wear if the bearing gives any kind of resistance?

That looks to me like a seal ring, with a crown race that would sit on the taper inside the bearing. Forks are not tapered at the crown so definitely would not be connecting directly.

Like Hamster says, that's just a seal.

I couldn’t find any exploded diagrams but think it’s a splash guard, then the crown race ridge would ride on the bearing with this plastic part sitting flush on the other plate of race.

Thanks for confirming, thought I might be going mad.
