WTD: Clincher wheelset 8spd shimano compatible

Need a set of wheels, 8spd Shimano compatible. Doesn't have to be super dooper - prefer robust rather than super light. And prefer affordable rather than expensive! (Don't we all) Ideally around Midlands, Plymouth, Bristol or Lincs area (or anywhere in between).

    What frame is this?

I took a punt on an eBay purchase local to me and collected it today. Unfortunately I didn't realise it has tubular tyres... so they'll be for sale, nowt special (Mavic GP4 on Omega hubs). Anyway the frame doesn't have a manufacturer mark at all. Serial no AM2K025235 Big aluminium thing...

wtd: 7-spd shimano racer for project

Looking for 7-speed shimano racer for 700c ladies bike project. I'm getting the frame separately so anything will do even if the frame is fubar'd. I've got £150 to spend and I'm in sunny* Leamington - but regularly travel to Plymouth, Bristol, sometimes Sheffield. *it's raining cats and dogs.

    Radial lace front wheel?

Is it ok to radial lace a front mtb wheel (non disc, obviously)? Any reason why I shouldn't? It's a NOS FIR rim on a shimano alvio 32h hub

    Calling All Orange C16R Owners

Re: I collected this today, feeling quite smug since it set me back £35. It's in reasonable nick given the age but it needs a full strip/rebuild, and the front wheel isn't original. Saddle and post don't look right either (what did these have originally?). It's got full STX RC which feels as...

    Help! New brakes don't fit

Re: The front adaptor is actually stamped with 185 which is probably where the issue is, however I'm a bit confused as I thought discs were standard diameters (160, 180, 200 etc). Could be Avid being gits again I suppose - I really hate their brakes and will never buy their stuff again

    Help! New brakes don't fit

Re: Removed the spherical washers and it's bang on at the rear, but still a few mm off at the front. Possibly close enough for jazz, we'll see. I'll order a 180mm Shimano post mount adaptor and see how I get on with that. It's easier to add distance from hub to caliper than take it away, if...

    Help! New brakes don't fit

Re: Bert - thanks, that's exactly the advice I was looking for. I'll give it a go without the spacers next. I might even get the grinder out if they still don't fit... Rampage - fine, but which adaptors would/should I need?

    Help! New brakes don't fit

I forgot to mention that... they're not spacers, they're spherical washers that allow the caliper to be aligned to the disc. I'd rather not lose them unless they're not required...

    Help! New brakes don't fit

I bought some Shimano calipers and levers, good value at £75ish I thought. Anyway I've gone to put them on my Stumpy FSR (which used to have Avid Juicys on) and the pads don't seem to line up with the discs. The pads sit about 5-10mm outboard of where they should sit relative to the disc...

Rubbish parts that command a premium

Re: Alpinestars frames? Everyone I know who has had an aluminium one is sad that theirs has cracked or is poorer because they paid to repair it (and maybe respray it too). Yes the colours were very Nineties but they're a bit fragile compared to other contemporary kit. Campag bits - supply...

Raleigh Technium ('88-ish) Norfolk 99p start

Re: I hadn't spotted the odd wheels. My technium lunched its back wheel back in the day - it was some crappy Araya job which I replaced with a nice mavic ceramic job. Then I killed it by riding into a wheelbarrow full of hot tar. Frame unbonded and hurty burnt skin...

Raleigh Technium ('88-ish) Norfolk 99p start

(Not mine) Really like this, top end Technium with U-brake... but it's in Norfolk, which may as well be Mongolia to me. Last time I drove there I couldn't believe how far away from civilisation it was... Anyway, bike looks like an easy resto: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Bikes-/33503/ ... SRCHX:SRCH
