Help identifying and valuing a bob jackson found this at the back of my recently widowed friends garage we have no idea if it has a value ?

That's an understatement if i've ever heard one! I consider a 42x28 a bit sporty with the local topography.

    1994 Norco Rampage

An early 90's Rampage *sigh* So I picked one of those up a few years back. Was told it was a large (19.5) and didn't measure it. When I got it home and started riding it I figured out it was a medium (18.5) and even though it was a dream to ride, I stripped it and "sold" the frame (got hosed on...

    1994 Norco Rampage

I lived with the BIL of the Norco product developer of that bike. It definitely came with a gold Marzocchi.

    1994 Norco Rampage

I think the bike came with a black LX one stock. If you use that one at least replace the big ring with a silver one.

    Bar ends yay or nay?

I love bar ends - particularly the longer ones - and feel they have two benefits. 1. leverage while climbing which was important with 7 speed and 28 tooth grannies, and 2. extra hand positions for long XC rides or bike touring. I think they fell out of favour because of the move to riser bars -...

GT Zaskar idealised specification.. show me yours..

Agree that an XT or XTR build would be my target and I'd try to add some period correct bling on it like a RaceFace Turbine crank, upmarket brakes, a nice stem from someone like Synchros or Ringle, wheels with fancy hubs, annodized bars, and topped off with a Marzocchi Z1.

The Pros Closet is going out of business

Even we "Americans" call them mud flaps and the best ones have nude women on them and are paired with hitch nuts.

The Pros Closet is going out of business

Interesting. Apparently a bicycle fender is an American adaptation from the use of fender during the development of the automobile and was adapted for that use from fireplaces (17th C) and nautical use (13thC) and was a contraction of the word defender.

The Red Green solution would be filling it with JB Weld!

The Pros Closet is going out of business

Woz, its my understanding that TPC or whatever their parent company was bought the Radavist from John Prolly at one point and then he bought it back again when TPC figured out they had over reached / misjudged the pandemic cycling bump. Not sure when the articles in question were written, but it...

The Pros Closet is going out of business

I never heard the term mudguard until I started hanging out here. Definitely a British (possibly european?) term.

The Pros Closet is going out of business

I just learned that The Pros Closet is going out of business after 18 years. That's really sad. I wonder what's going to happen with the museum exhibits.

    Converting SRAM brakes to nutted.

No. I've just done it to Tektro. I would imagine SRAM would work about the same.

    Surly Cross Check Project Thread

Nice. I've toyed with picking up a used Crosscheck over the years, but once I got my Miyata 1000 there wasn't much point in adding a similar bike. I do like the ability to run fatter rubber though. Enjoy.

Installing a modern Shimano front mech

I'm swapping my winter commuter/gravel bike components from my old Elephant NFE to a 2024 Kona Rove DL frame (I stopped liking the low trail geometry on the Elephant). The old 105 front mech I used on the NFE wouldn't fit on the Rove so I found a virtually new braze on version on Craigslist...

How hard (moreso costly) is it to put a modern drivetrain on a vintage mtb?

Sorry - I'm running a 3X with a 9 speed rear end on my touring bike. If you are going 1X and don't want a chain tensioner or guide you should probably go with a narrow wide chainring to simplify your life (I believe you can get them to fit a vintage crank). That being said my ebike is 1x10 and...
