Having an issue seating my crown race

As far as I'm aware, with the exception of the awful 'hiddenset' headsets all 1" Campag headsets from that time (both threaded and unthreaded) used exactly the same 26.4mm crown race, so I doubt they made any with a different i.d. and if they did they'd list seat cutters in different diameters...

Fausto coppi aluminum K by Masclachi

That'll be a Masciaghi Coppi, the company F.lli Masciaghi (Masciaghi Brothers in english) took control of the Coppi brand back in the mid-1990s, moved to producing alloy frames and expanded to utility bikes. More recently the company was bought out and looks to have dropped the lightweight bike...

    Road Racing Pictures •

My ATB setup is as close as possible to my road bikes, has stiff suspension and narrow road tyres too. It's ok for a potter around the lanes but for anything else it's awful. One Sunday last winter I was heading home after an easy 25 miles on it (why, I've no idea there must have been some...

Falcon frame. Can anyone id this frame?

Not a model I recognise and I think I'd have remembered the colour. Judging from positions of the decals (too-low decal on the down tube and too high on the seat tube) and their style, I'd say it was finished at the Brigg factory, most probably after I left the company so sometime after 1981.

    Preventative maintenance Vs emergency repair

It's amazing what you see in a bike workshop. My old boss used to reckon that we should write a book about it. In my opinion it'd get put in the fiction category because nobody would believe it was the truth. I still remember pulling a tyre and tube off a Raleigh Roadster and discovering that...

    Anyone into classic cars

I watch Ricky's Youtubes - it was from one of those where I learned the ins&outs of overhauling my oil pump, saved me at least £3K.

    Anyone into classic cars

The problem with the twin turbo V10 is that when something breaks, if the cause isn't obvious most places (especially Audi main dealerships) fire the parts cannon and may eventually fix the car after replacing many parts that were perfectly serviceable. Blows smoke at start up? That'll be new...

    Anyone into classic cars

My two long-term projects back in the days when they were roadworthy, taxed and MoT'd A 1988 quattro turbo (MB engine code) currently undergoing body restoration and engine rebuild A 1981 quattro turbo (WR engine code) currently undergoing body restoration And then there's the reason why...

What speed is my Xenon rear derailleur?

I'm almost(!) certain that 9-speed Xenons were actually marked '9 speed' in white on the outer plate of the body and both plates of the cage were self-coloured steel. That's what mine looks like anyway and all the 10 speeds I've seen are marked like the one pictured and have either a black outer...

Route planning in addition to Google.

I've been using ridewithgps.com for some years now. It's got a couple of issues that I've found, firstly it tends to err on the low side where gradients are concerned and secondly it makes some weird assumptions as to the route that should be taken between way points. The second can be avoided...

    First Ever Steel/Other Bike Owned

My first full-size bike was my father's then almost forgotten Raleigh (a Super Sport as I learned in the last year or so) which I dragged out of our shed in my early teens and used for riding to school as it meant I avoided using a combination of 2 or sometimes 3 bus journeys in each direction...

What Happened to The French: Fin d'une époque?

Vitus. There was a time when I'd have killed (ok, you know what I mean) to own a Carbone 9 with Kronos forks. Even now I wouldn't turn one down given the chance.

    Ali Express for tyres ?

My policy is to not buy anything other than basic plain moulded plastics from AliExpress. Safety-related and electrical stuff is definitely out. Some of the companies trading on there are well-known for marking their products with the 'China Export' CE symbols, something which is easily confused...

What Happened to The French: Fin d'une époque?

Then they mandated lawyer tabs and screwed things up for everybody.

    Is this a Holdworth...

Plain gauge 531 is 26.4 if I remember correctly. Mud guard eyes on the front drop outs but not on the rear suggests a fork replacement.

CB track with wood rims £250

The hubs look very much like Ambrosio Zenith. That's not the classic Italian company, that died years back, it's an outfit in north London. The rims could be NOS Ghisallo as the current product (company still exists https://www.cerchioghisallo.shop/) is different. I'm sure I've seen concave...

    Colnago SLX spiral conic

Back in the 1980s the rather rare first series Colnago Mexico was built with Columbus Record tubing and often featured gilt plating. I write 'gilt' because I doubt that it was actual gold.

Benelux mid-50's derailleur - not adding tension - any ideas?

That's a Benelux Mark 12. My first thought is that the chain is too short by something like 4 double links but full fitting instructions are here - take note of the 'three rivets' comment in paragraph two on page 3 of the scan.

    Black or Silver spokes

All my wheels whether black rims/silver rims/gun metal rims, no matter what hubs (again, black/silver/gunmetal) have self-colour stainless steel spokes EXCEPT a used Fulcrum rear wheel in 'Disaster Area' black-on-black with black spokes which I bought cheap for turbo trainer use - and that was a...
