I've got to admit, I was going to sell the bike once it was done, but I'm falling in love with it. Think it might be a keeper.

Not much happening at the moment... The rear rim went banana at the join (the pin had cracked) under the smallest amount of tension, so have ordered a couple of Kinlin T10s as replacement. They look virtually identical to the Starals and I'd rather have peace of mind knowing they weren't going...

Sorted Hail Mary... T.A. Cyclotourist Double Chainring Bolts

I will take your arm off please :) This forum is marvellous! If it helps confirm a match, I have done a detailed engineering diagram of the originals... If they appear to be the same, let me know your details and I'll pay immediately. Many thanks again.

Sorted Hail Mary... T.A. Cyclotourist Double Chainring Bolts

This is the longest of long shots but I don't suppose anyone has a set of T.A. Cyclotourist chainring bolts they are willing to sell? They are 7mm diameter (as opposed to more modern 10mm chainring bolts) and come in a set of 6 each with a 3.4mm spacer which sits between the outer and inner...

If anyone still has the will-to-live reading this thread, then I salute you and appreciate your continued interest. This post sums up retro bikes for me... This axle is such a simple thing, but to me it is a thing of beauty. It looks and feels like it was made with the same care and quality as a...

Anyone got any views on whether these were likely to have been original on the bike? They are going to stay because they ooze quality, but it does seem to be a bit of a mish-mash of components.

One wheel down and the next one started. This went through 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit sandpaper and a lot of elbow grease. Followed by the buffing wheel and finished off with Autosol. Unfortunately there were a couple of gouges which I couldn't get out, but happy...

Favourite tool day! It currently remains undefeated in the world of fixed cup bottom brackets.

Google had convinced me I needed a 23.35mm diameter extractor for the Stronglight cranks. Turns out I didn't, so I am now the proud parent of a 22mm, 23mm and 23.35mm crank extractor family. Are there any more sizes out there...

I'm going to reuse the spokes to rebuild the wheels since they look in pretty good shape. However, I'm definitely no spoke-whisperer who can determine tension by flicking the spokes like a piano tuner. Therefore, step one is to calibrate my tensiometers for these specific spokes. I knocked up...

is it black enamel in the engraving, or just a trick of the light? I’ve tried to highlight engraving on pedals / hubs / cranks with enamel myself, but just mess it up. Is there a trick / knack to it?

I think @Nob was wondering if he could swap those ones for my Nuovo Tipo. My answer is yes.

Thanks for the advice. For a first attempt, I was planning to knock up a small block of metal which would slot into the new gaps in the freewheel body. I would drill a hole through it, so I could use the QR to retain it in the slots as you would do with the "normal" tool. Flip the wheel, put the...

I take it back… Looking at this pic for more than 10 seconds, it seems like the gaps for the dogs on the freewheel tool have been massively butchered. Something tells me this isn’t going to be coming off 😢

Been thinking about this. Not a huge fan in general, but may add a shorty one which just needs the brake calliper bolt mount. Rear has got the eyes for a full length one.

I think I'll rebuild the wheels so I can get at the hubs to polish them for the "shiny things" thread.
