BoTM BotM December 2021 - the poll

Thanks lads! It's nice to know that an obscure brand like Off-Road Toad can catch the attention of the bike connoisseurs that hang out here. It feels great to receive so much love for our West Coast Canadian steel. B.C. was a true hotbed of mtb cool in that era. Much respect to the other...

    1990 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt

Thank you Blizz for reaching out to me about this gem. So stoked to add it to my collection! I will take great care of it, and am looking forward to giving it a little tlc over time. Such a beauty, and seemingly original spec overall, according to the RM catalog. Well done Blizz, in reproducing...

    Let's see some Dekerfs..

First year (1993) DeKerf Mountain, recently repainted by the man himself. It had been powder coated black with era-incorrect decals, which I could not tolerate (thanks ocd) ;). Thanks to Gil for help reproducing the decals, which were no longer available. And to Raidan for the DeKerf chainrings...

    1992 Off-Road Toad (dark green)

Very cool, and you should do it! Most retro geeks walk the 'Snake Pit' anyways, you don't have to risk life and limb to compete. Your photos are from near the starting line of the downhill?

In some respects, you are correct. However, the Dia-compe SS7 levers, paired with the 987 cantis are a great stopping combo when well set up (always the key for good canti stopping power). Also, the tig welded Toad was intended to be a light weight racing machine and I made a few decisions with...

    1992 Off-Road Toad (dark green)

I was able to 'walk it off', and the bike has a small souvenir from the acrobatics :)

This update is long overdue. Back in 2020, I was able to make a road trip down to the Keyesville Classic mountain bike race with the Toad. Such a fun event, and it was an honour to represent Canada down in California. We had a warm welcome, and I can't wait to go back again!

1992 Off Road Toad (iconic green)

I am fortunate to have a very capable machinist/welder as a friend. We sacrificed another set of bars to make a bunch of extension pieces, and he welded a set to my under 22" ti bars to get them to 25". Excellent work on his part. In the past I have been known to McGuyver pieces of wooden...

The crown race was machined and is actually part of the steerer, as the steerer tube extension was milled from a thick-walled piece of steel
