1993 Kona Hei Hei (finished pics page 3)

Re: 1992 Kona Hei Hei You know I will M-Power ;) Progress photo. I had to come up with a noodle for the stem. First attempt failed with the noodle crimping, but to be fair I was lazy. Second attempt I did it properly. Filled a v-brake noodle with sand to get a decent bend with crimping and...

1993 Kona Hei Hei (finished pics page 3)

Re: 1992 Kona Hei Hei The frame had been partially polished by a previous owner, and I spent some time on it with fine steel wool to get the finish back to a more uniform semi-matte finish. Then I cleaned off the residue with acetone and worked up the courage (scotchety scotch) to apply the...

1993 Kona Hei Hei (finished pics page 3)

I have had this frame in the build queue for over a year now, and have patiently collecting parts for the build. I managed to find a titanium P2 fork for it, but it was just a few mm too short for my 19" frame's head tube! I looked in to having the fork's steer tube extended, but it was going to...

    1989 Mantis Valkyrie

Re: Wow, Harald has outdone himself with this paint job, and kudos to you for giving him the free reign to do something different! I was afraid it might end up too crazy when I saw it in the Toxik Lab last year, but I can see he dialled it down a little in the final version. Such a nice...

1993 Rocky Mountain Altitude - for Canada's Day!

Re: Hi Frank, if you still have this 1993 Altitude, can you tell me if it has a serial number on the bb shell? Mine does not, and there appear to be several others w/o...

Kona project 2 forks in place of suspension

Yeah I would say you need a pair of the suspension corrected mid 90s P2s, with an axle to crown length of 415mm. The earlier ones would really steepen your angles I'd think. Fine for a street ripper though...

So you managed to outwrangle all other suitors hey Roy? Well played. That is an eccentric one for sure!

    Kona Hot 1993?

Presumably the Hot went with a front shock in 1994, and so a rigid fork would be 'suspension corrected' to compensate and maintain the proper geometry. I can't confirm that happened in 1994, but it sounds right...

Stolen dream bike found 26 years later? Fat Chance (TC)!

Just a little update. As much as I loved the IRD stem and brakes, I decided to go with a closer to original build, with XT M730 brakes and 4 finger levers, and a Salsa stem with more rise. It feels much better now, and my back thanks me. This bike loves to get out on the trails, and the more...

    BotM May 2018 nominations

Haaland just made things very interesting! Beautiful bike; the IRD dropper post takes it over the top for me. Full IRD and Bullseye cranks make for a ridiculous spec. The number of entries has dropped in recent months, but definitely not the quality!! Great month again, as always...

1999 Wilderness Trail Bikes Phoenix Titanium

Yes, Haaland has it, a suspension corrected P2. It is not triple butted, and therefore is rather stiff. But the forgiving frame, paired with titanium bar and stem make for a comfortable ride. It is seriously the bike I have to resist taking out on every ride, if I ever want to try any of the...

1999 Wilderness Trail Bikes Phoenix Titanium

It's not perfect, but I will continue to upgrade it. 1996. I need to find a nice 140/100mm wheelset for it before I 'retro' it up a bit, and go back to WTB cantilever brakes, etc.... 20180317_115615 by shamalama88, on Flickr 20180317_115432edit by shamalama88, on Flickr
