Talon f&f: "No rust Arizona bike"

A small man-mess in your pants? I think everyone knows how much you like an E-stay

Wanted Shimano Deore XT M730/732 hubs 32 holes 100/135mm

Hmm, back into the shed! I measured between the inner surfaces of the flanges this morning, and have just been out again. A 'NIP' M732 "130mm" hub is pretty much 53mm between surfaces, a M737 off the Merlin "135" is the same. If their body lengths are different I do stand corrected! I think...

Wanted Shimano Deore XT M730/732 hubs 32 holes 100/135mm

To confirm my memory I've just been to the shed and measured between the flanges on a '130' and a '135' XT hub - it's the same. Just get a longer axle and a spacer and re-build/ re-space. These will be plentiful - just put a wanted ad up. I didn't see Roly (Bicyclist.cc) had them for £50 - I...

    Diamondback Axis colour mystery

Good shout. It's a lacquer on top - I've an earlier Apex I think it is - the white one with acetylene smoke effect and straight forks - over the top of that is a very faint pinky-purple shimmering lacquer which in bright sun is pretty cool. With on-line pictures you'd never know it had this...

    Diamondback Axis colour mystery

Nice score - quality! Someone will be along to confirm either way but something in my head tells me I've seen this colour before on RB and it was a European (non-UK) colour-way. That's my sketchy memory telling me this though

    89 Cinder Cone rescue (hopefully)

Plus one for acetone. A quite big canister from my local hardware shop was maybe £6-7 and has been used for all sorts of de-greasing duties and did remove some rattle-can spray fairly easily. Do it slow and start somewhere less visible - the OE finish shouldn't evaporate before your eyes -...

Wanted XT R/H thumbie mount - or a bright idea to repair a 'hidden' ally threaded hole!

Ah, as in drilled right through the body so the hole is all the way through, screw up from the underside into a nut on top?! Pretty unsightly yes/no? Perfunctory no doubt!

Wanted XT R/H thumbie mount - or a bright idea to repair a 'hidden' ally threaded hole!

I just can't picture this with my feeble mind! The stripped threads are in the inner, main body of the XT thumbshifter - if I could introduce a nut into there to become the threads that sounds like a winner - I just can't see how :( I don't get it!

Wanted XT R/H thumbie mount - or a bright idea to repair a 'hidden' ally threaded hole!

I would helicoil, but I just can't see how as I can't reach the surface I would need to work on - the clamp is in the way. If it were DX thumbies I might be brave enough to open the clamp right out to get access, but can't with XT thumbies. Sod it - I've used the pillar drill at work and...

Wanted XT R/H thumbie mount - or a bright idea to repair a 'hidden' ally threaded hole!

To quote my father (RIP - his favourite swear-passage) $hit bu@@er @rsehole pi$$ coc% f@rt - the R/H thumbie has a stripped thread - the one that holds it onto the bars. The pair weren't an Ebay buy, I'll say no more. I don't think the sale was deceiving though, but a repair was done with a...

Is it acceptable to mix cable outer colours?

THM that is an affirmative with those glowing examples! I've not seen that MF before - weewahwoowah!

Is it acceptable to mix cable outer colours?

It's a Merlin - a whole lotta black and 'silver' - so it'd likely stick out like a pair of tats on a cat. It's decided - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! For this bike anyway, but I Iike the idea as a possible thing to do with a coloured bike

Is it acceptable to mix cable outer colours?

'Suit' as there are flashes of the same turquoise.

Is it acceptable to mix cable outer colours?

I think I might be in this camp! It'd be ruinous to fudge about with a nice set (of cables), only to think I've been a twot. I might have to get some fluoro gear cables?!

Is it acceptable to mix cable outer colours?

First time try at a poll. I have some neon yellow Gore Ride-On brake cables which I REALLY want to use. They do feel lovely (fitted them on now-wife's bike) - and the neon yellow is of course, very neon. The packet says 1996 so a I'd have thought a bit past the neon fad. But, it's only the...

    Is my stem straight . . .?

When looking down from above I shut one eye at a time - I find this highlights if it's on the pi$$ slightly more one way than the other. No need for a descent into madness!

    Kona Explosif

The frame paint doesn't seem so bad - it's the rest that's caught the weather. I'd want more close-up shots around the BB area for a start, assurance the seatpost and stem move and they could cheapen it postage-wise if they tossed half of it away - not sure about those wheels or cranks. Most...

    Kona Explosif

That garden might have been facing the English Channel by the looks of it - poor thing. If you've got lots of juicy parts for it and it's cheap buy it! Strip it, black's easy to colour match, decals, 2K lacquer in a can - job's a good un! (This is what I was going to do to my Explosif 2...
