    there's different spacers for different ratios of cassette at least on 10 speed. I dropped one when I was fitting it recently and had to get the manual to get them in the right order from memory the bottom 2 sprockets have integral spacers anyway

    27.4 too tight and 27.2 too slack

    I once got a 27.2 seatpost (race face) stuck in a 27.2 frame. a Thomson fitted perfectly. Tolerances are funny old things.

    it's the inbred 26er you're after - the 456 was an inbred redesigned to take longer forks and is a bit gnar for what you're after they had various dropout designs and I don't think all of them will take the 2.8 tyre. They all take at least a 2,4 though
