    Kona Project 2, rare type?

I based that estimate on looking fairly hard for a set a month or two back :) there were about 5 or 6 on ebay at the time almost all of which were in the 60 to 80 quid range but not selling that quickly an offer secured the one that fitted my frame properly for 60 - wasn't in the best condition...

    Klein Attitude frame on eBay

this sorta comment kinda pisses me off this bike was built in Chehalis, Washington (ie Klein's original factory, not Trek's, even if Trek owned Klein at this point) and still has many of the cool frame and tubing details Klein were famous for, even if the mission control headset and stem/bars...

    Kona Project 2, rare type?

I'd say 60 quid is the realistic going rate for mid 90s P2's (but maybe not this particular later model) I paid that for mine anyway

    Frames

might as well add mine :) 1994 Kona Lava Dome: 1995g (4 lbs, 6 oz) - this surprised me a little as its comfortably under the brochure spec. 19" frame

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

an early 2000s salsa caseroll was on up on ebay last week - kinda kicking myself for not bidding on it. Think that would be about perfect for a comfortable roadie with some mild gravel pretensions

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

I suspect I have similar bike tastes to you @Tootyred and went through a similar exercise before just going retro anyway :) the other maker that appealed to me was Brother cycles - I like their slightly alt approach to some of their bikes (eg mr wooden)

it works - just pay attention to the cups going in straight initially

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

Soma make some interesting options - eg wolverine for gravelly stuff nicer tubes than Surly (Tange Prestige) but similar vibe Fairlight is maybe the most obvious option in the UK though - they seem to get rave reviews

Headset tools. What to avoid? Whats recommended?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gatphy-Bearing-Bicycle-Headset-Installation/dp/B0D3LQKQCP probably cheaper than trying to roll your own :)

Headset tools. What to avoid? Whats recommended?

you can pick up a cheapy removal tool from amazon for less than 10 quid - I don't see any good reason to spend more on one TBH, they are dead simple. I also got a cheap chinese HS press from amazon for about 15 quid which does the job fine, though cos its not as precise or massive as the MUCH...

    Cantilever Brake Masterclass

that looks not bad I think for medium profile cantis like these, the way the angles work is a little different and its not so much about getting the straddle as low as possible (as it would be with low profile arms) - more you want the straddle cable and the imaginary line from the straddle...

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

you can still get new 7 speed cassettes (even shimano ones!) and new chainrings are still available for both 110 and 94 BCD cranksets which I think were the two most prevalent MTB standards early on not as many options as there would have been of course but still being made (as well as square...

    Cantilever Brake Masterclass

this is not my experience at all - if they are the correct length the shimano style link cables actually work very well - they really help reduce the amount of slack by setting up better angles in my (admittedly limited) experience in addition to removing the risk of the straddle cable becoming...

    Wanted Middleburn spider

I have a 110BCD triple (74BCD inner) I would actually be interested in swapping for a 94 BCD triple :) currently attached to my cranks of course! non x type (ie chainline will be correct for the older square tape/isis RX7s)
