    Raceface headset!

some forks (esp carbon ones) have the crown race as a built in, non removable feature (usually set at 45 degrees) could that be what is going on here? admittedly only seen this on much newer stuff!

for anyone else following along the german forum thread linked to in Joglo's post is also well worth a deeper dive (google translate works well enough!) https://www.mtb-news.de/forum/t/erfahrungen-mit-microshift-daumenschalthebeln.620264/page-26

thanks for the offer but kinda no (on the back at least) - too used to indexing on the rear to give that up :)

9 speed thumbies - best option?

not sure that would bother me hugely on the front. Rear would be a different story anyone tried running them inverted? (ie under bars rather than on top)

9 speed thumbies - best option?

thats interesting...the actual shifter mount would likely be fairly straightforward - its just a square boss with an M5 tapped hole in the middle - grab an old set of clamp ons and file/grind the clamp off... reckon it would be the attachment of the cable stop that might be more difficult

9 speed thumbies - best option?

expensive for sure, given we're talking small alloy brackets to enable one to use 30 year out of date technology on ones bicycle :)

9 speed thumbies - best option?

the Rivendel versions seem to offer the most flexibility in terms of mounting style - will probably pony up for those if I go down that route love the Paul stuff (not just thumbies - love levers, some of the brakes are awesome also) but just think its kind of madly over priced (over here at...

thanks for the low down on your experience @Betsy - appreciated 👍 assuming when you refer to DA mounts you mean the Jtek ones SJS sell?

9 speed thumbies - best option?

yeah was thinking likewise - for 23 quid if they are shit its not the end of the world :)

9 speed thumbies - best option?

eg - the jtek brackets that SJS do those dura-ace bar con deals with don't actually look especially ergonomic to me - like the shifters need more offset from the bars? (the Pauls and the VO/Riv copies seem to have a lot more offset) but I'm just guessing - haven't got any actual experience to...

9 speed thumbies - best option?

10 speed is also possible with simialr options, bar the sunrace (and would make the microshift route easier to obtain for sure) but prefer 9 - using an older derailleur and am not sure I want to have even less cable pull :)

9 speed thumbies - best option?

choices seem to be: 1. dura-ace bar-cons mounted to Pauls thumb brackets (or rivendel/VO cheaper alternatives) 2. dura-ace DT shifters mounted to Pauls thumb brackets (or rivendel/VO cheaper alternatives) 3. sunrace M96 new thumb shifters (which seem to be pretty much equivalent to the above in...

    Bar ends yay or nay?

yep, bar ends and risers are not happy bed fellows - minus a zillion style points ;) I like to wrap some spare roadie bar tape on mine
