    Sorted Kona 1995 Bits

was in the same boat recently - 94 forks will do fine - no change on the specs between 94 to 97 essentially so any of those years should be good (earlier P2's are not suspension corrected so will be 15mm shorter AC) if threaded just double check the head tube length, - 140mm sounds about right...

XTR M952 Short Cage - Maximum Rear tooth capacity

I've just stuck an M739 SGS on my 9 speed setup - 11-34 at the back and 24/36/46 at the front even with the SGS cage its a bit too much capacity wise (RD really stretched out on big/big and jockey wheels still clattering into each other on small/small) - thats also 45T total and about 7T over...

XTR M952 Short Cage - Maximum Rear tooth capacity

usually MTB triple fronts spec max 10 or so teeth diff between chainrings - its probably a bit too big a diff for the FD cage to manage effectively

How do I clean up my V8’s?

a good scrubbing with a nylon brush and some warm soapy water might be a good place to start though ;)

How do I clean up my V8’s?

I should be more careful with drunken late night posting just a warning - if the cages are anodized and you want to keep them that way do NOT use the draino - it will also do a great job of stripping any anodizing off them as well! - vinegar soak for a few hours is the more gentle approach -...

Possible to have new steerer fitted to forks?

steerer extensions are generally done by chopping the existing steerer above the butt in the tube and then joining a new steerer length to that with some sort of press fit sleeve inside to help bolster the joint - then it all gets welded and sanded - theres a great video on Paul Brodie's youtube...

How do I clean up my V8’s?

if it was me I'd just clean them with draino and accept a fairly 'rustic' surface finish I think - those V8s would be a total PITA to polish i think with all the nooks and crannys...

How do I clean up my V8’s?

if the bolts and spindles have any rust then leaving them in a jar of vinegar over night is generally a good and cheap way of getting rid of a lot of that - again, use some metal polish to regain a nice finish

How do I clean up my V8’s?

an alternative is clean them, then prime and paint of course

How do I clean up my V8’s?

a shortish bath (just the cages mind!) in some drain clearing gel or similar is great for quickly removing the outer layers of crud and oxidisation - dilute it 3:1 with some hot water and you can almost see the stuff come off (literally minutes is all you need) however while it will leave a...

    Yet another lava dome!!! (1994)

getting there - slowly! proper non lethal front canti hanger arrived - I can now safely use the front brakes 👍 though I must admit I'm still not sure on the whole canti thing - these keep calling to me and the rational side of my brain definitely approves :) I also kinda gave up on the...

Kona’s - best year for frame?

Obviously down to personal preference but for me 94 to 96 had the best colours and graphics '97 saw the move to the more 'comic sans'-seque, "Hawaiian" styled graphics which personally I am not a big fan of. the earlier ones are growing on me though - ie 90-91 era I think the mid to late 90s...

XTR M952 Short Cage - Maximum Rear tooth capacity

Again, just to avoid confusion Max sprocket size != capacity :) they are two different things. Cage length mostly affects max capacity only (ie the ability to manage chain tension over the entire range) max sprocket size is mainly down to how far out you can manage to get the derailleur guide...
