    Currys Elizabethan

Well, I remember Curry's selling bikes and that they generally seemed to be a metallic purple colour. Did they have their own factory or were they bought in?

    Brian Robinson

I'm sorry to say Brian was really not well enough to be able to ride for some time. I last saw him on a bike about 3 years ago when him and a friend caught me and a mate up going to the cafe - and then sat on our wheels. It was only a mile to the cafe so probably not worth coming through -...

    Clive Stuart Cycles

I've spoken with Brian and he confirms the frame was a Roger Kowalski build. No idea where it is now or if it even still exists!

The Colnago Collection @ Graham Weigh's place

Interesting. I didn't know Graham had so much on You Tube. I'll have to spend a day or two catching up!

    Clive Stuart Cycles

Just remembered I've got this. Bought from the Stoke shop early '71 along with some CS shorts, quickly rebranded 'Live Art' to avoid the RTTC stasi. It is fairly large and was good for taking stuff when riding out to events.

Now how did I know Nob would have photos of PG on his CS?! Nice ones. I was with Brian Rourke yesterday at Brian Robinson's funeral and meant to ask him about the frame - but forgot! To much else going on I'm afraid.

Removing paint from a vintage silca pump

I've often used brake fluid to remove paint from plastic models. I've got an old jamjar of 'old style' fluid. I'm not sure if the modern stuff will work in the same way though.

    Clive Stuart Cycles

Good to see it is back. However, not sure about some of the 'Clive Stuarts' in the gallery section. There's one or two there that look - to me at any rate - a bit dubious. The one I would like to find is one ridden by Phil Griffiths, most likely sourced from the Stoke shop, in the iconic...

80s no name frames, that all the shops did?

You might be getting confused with Roger Kowalski who, for a time, built frames in Harry's basement. The image below shows Roger building and Harry filing lugs - probably about as close to frame building as he ever got. Roger also built for Clive Stuart in Stoke-on-Trent for a while - but...

    cougar frame question

Position looks a bit fierce - as befits a good roadman sprinter:cool:

    Brian Robinson

I was very sad to discover that my boyhood hero and 1950's Tour de France pioneer Brian Robinson passed away yesterday. He was 91. Brian was an inspiration to me as a young lad - as he probably was to many an aspiring 'racer' in my generation - and I avidly read his exploits in Sporting...

Dave Yates / Joe Waugh frame

Built May 1978? Looks like a '70's frame with no braze on etc?

    Mercian Pro Lugless 653

Lovely machine. I didn't know that Mercian did lugless frames. They made an excellent job of this one! Looks a bit 'Telecom'ish' to me.

    Olympic Cycles Nottingham...any memories..

Great to see the bike in my photo is still around nearly 60 years later. I can still remember the 'tick-tick' of the SA hub gear as he passed.

    Olympic Cycles Nottingham...any memories..

Here's a photo of Cliff Smith riding one of his RRA's in the Mersey RC 24 hr time trial around 1965 when it was the National Championship event. A bit out of focus I'm afraid but it was a rather basic cheap camera. I've left the two spectators in the shot as they add a bit of period 'colour'...

My vernier is Mitutoyo. Had it for years, none of this modern digital rubbish. Gets used most days for something.

Brands we never see on RB?

Was it Steve Lawrence the National Road Race Champion that rode a Buck? I remember it from photos in Cycling BITD.

    Owen Blower Bike

AFAIK his frames were bought in. Possibly from a variety of sources but I don't recognise the seat stay top at all. Looks rather chunky and inelegant to me.
