    Campy / Shimano freehub swap?

Re: Hi, They are Fulcrum hubs (racing 5's) so thank you, I will look into swappable splines. Assuming I can find a Shimano splined hub will that work with something as venerable as 8 speed I wonder?

    Campy / Shimano freehub swap?

OK, I have two bikes, one modern, one older. I have an idea that it would be possible to take the wheels off my 11 speed campy bike and, by simply swapping the freehub with the freehub from my shimano 8 speed bike's wheels, I could use my newer wheels with my 8 speed cassette. Is this remotely...

Cassette change 13-23 for something more forgiving

Thanks for that. It looks to be an RD-6401 which says it can take up to 28. What are the tell tale signs of a worn cassette? I don't want to mix and match if the old cassettes is too worn although it looks, to my untutored eye, in pretty good condition.

Cassette change 13-23 for something more forgiving

As per the title. My roadbike is running an 8 speed shimano setup (mixture in fact of dura ace, 600, 105). The rear derailleur is shimano 600. The front chainwheels are 53 and 39. My current cassette is 13-23 which is fine for most purposes (and I like the fact that the spacing between gears...

    Swapping wheels?

Hi there. I have an idea, which is to run some slick road tyres on my MTB for road use. However I want the option of knobbly tyres for the off road stuff. I want to get another set of wheels so that I can have a separate wheelset for each type of tyre and simply swap them over when needed. To...

Need some wheels for my Orange

Hi. I am after a second set of wheels for my Orange c16r. I want some light (ish) but still robust wheels for road use. I will fit some slicks and retain the existing wheels for off road/tracks etc. I'm currently running a 7 speed cassette so the new wheels will need to accommodate the same...

    Oh no! Damaged my bike.

Right. Getting there. In terms of a new chain, what should I be looking at? Derailleur is an xt m739, crankset xt750. Have a 7 speed cassette (might put an 8 speed in if it ever needs replacing) So am I looking for an HG something or other? Or an IG (wiggle have some of these at good...

    Oh no! Damaged my bike.

I'm happy enough simply to bend it back straight if that's all that is required. Now where's me adjustable spanner?

    Oh no! Damaged my bike.

It is bent then? The tyre is some weird hybrid one I got with the bike- its supposed to be slick in the middle- quite good on road as a result.

    Oh no! Damaged my bike.

Oh dear. Riding along the other day (miles from anywhere, naturally) and somehow, whilst changing gear- I can't work out what precisely happened- the rear derailleur sheared in two. I was going pretty slowly, nothing got caught up in the wheels or anything and the chain didn't slip off the...

    7 speed confusing

Thanks folks for all your input. I agree it would be nice to fit the bike with some decent gear, so begins a long search... I think I might source the front/rear mechs and some shifters first and then think about cassettes/chainwheels and so on a bit later. Searching about it seems...

    7 speed confusing

Hi. Its an Orange c16r. It just seemed to me that when I search the web all new front mechs are 9, 10, 11... speed and the only 7 speeds still made are bottom of the range stuff. But it seemed to me that so long as there's no huge difference in chain widths then the front mechs at least...

    M737 M651 M650 & MKS

Interested in the Deore XT front mech M737. Have just posted a query about 7 speed setups etc but can I assume this front mech should work happily with a 7 speed shimano rear derailleur? Thanks

    7 speed confusing

Hi folks- So here's the beginner's questions. I have an Orange hardtail bike with a missing front mech/shifter/everything but with a triple up front, so I need to obtain the necessary bits to enable front shifting. At the rear is a Shimano 7 speed set up- I think its Alivio- in working...

Help! Query re: fitting some Orange forks

Courtesy of a member of this fine forum I have purchased a pair of Orange F7 forks which I am going to fit to my c16 bike in place of the suspension forks (don't like them, no need for them). Like these...

    Orange C16r forks

Hi all, Am about to pick up an Orange c16r in a 21" frame size, in a fetching silver finish. However the front suspension forks are not really my cup of tea and I'd really like to get hold, ideally, of some of the original rigid forks. I'm a novice so far as bike things are concerned...

    Claud Butler psycho?

Hi all. Has anybody any info on how good/bad a bike a Claud Butler psycho (no longer findable on the web) is? I've the chance of getting one and only need a bike for trails and paths but would like to know if they are regarded as a heap of junk or fundamentally decent. When were they made...
