Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Hi all, Long overdue update! It's pretty much finished now, just need to straighten the front wheel, but I really new a new pair as the rear rim is pretty thin, and the free hub is rough as you like and you can't buy new ones! Also the front is a modern cheapo disc piece of crap... Got some...

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Quick one... I notice some v brake callipers have a kind of linkage in them, looks like it maybe stops the pad following the arc of the arm as it's applied? Does this linkage make much difference in performance?

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

I think I will stick some v's on for now, to get me going. Then source a front disc comp and levers. Long term I need to try and find some period wheels (kona 399 originally) an xt or LX rear mech , canti's for front and levers and then forks, bars and stem. I wont do that till I am out if the...

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

I also have v brake levers... So I'd need new levers as well and may also explain why the rear brake is so bad (although not properly set up yet..)

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Well it still has the original dia comp canti on the rear, might look for a front one too... Are V brakes that much better?

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Re: Will do! It might end up going when I move, will see how much storage I have! Yeh I think boosters are a good idea. Not had a look to see if I can get a matching canti for the front.. I don't know if I will notice the difference in performance between the two anyway!

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Re: Yeh, I can't remember last time I used v brakes! I reckon with some of those super sticky pads they should perform ok. Plus the bars will look odd with one v brake and one hyd lever!

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Re: Not a bad idea, didn't think of that. I'm a big fan of full length outers anyway, less chance of crud getting in!

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Re: I won't let me upload any photos as it says file size too big!? Yeh the mech was done in unfortunately, loads of play in the main pivot, adjuster was missing and as you say jockey wheels totaly dead, not that they are such an issue. Il see how it goes on the road mech then, if I need to...

Hi all, another Kona saved from the scrap!

Hi all, A couple of months ago some tits attempted to steal my road bike. They didn't manage but in doing so they snapped the frame... So! Since I really didn't like road bikes and stuff, I thought id look out for an old MTB to get me out (to and from work and play on a local trail centre...
