A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Re: Happy new year to you all! I managed to get the paint done yesterday afternoon. As with all rattle can paint jobs (especially if you use lacquer) it has some 'orange peel' in the finish, I used high quality UPOL paint which helps but it still wasn't great. I left it to dry overnight and got...

A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Re: The Trailstar frame has sat in the shed untouched for 2 months but thanks to the Christmas break I finally got some time to work on it. First job was removing the old battered powder coat. DMR must have used some seriously tough stuff as I tried sandblasting but the only sand that would...

2017 11Ants tarANTula titanium beltdrive Pinion

Re: Re: Its not so much the cost of the actual gearbox, currently pinion are the only guys making a viable bicycle gearbox (I think there are others but with nowhere near the manufacturing volume capability of pinion). If bike makers were wanting to adopt the gearbox then they would currently...

2017 11Ants tarANTula titanium beltdrive Pinion

Re: Love this. I'm not lucky enough to have the coin available for a gearbox bike seen as they are still very much 'boutique' at the minute but eventually they will be more mainstream and I will have my own gearbox hardtail! I can see electronic shifting working well with gearboxes to. Seems...

A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Re: It's currently a really really dark blue. I'm going for gloss black with silver parts in the hope for a clean and classy look. I am undecided on forks. I have a set Z2 atom bomb's and also a more modern set of identitI rebate rigid's which have about the same a-c. I think I will fit the...

A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Re: Re: Nah it's rough as hell close up. Plus I will be removing unused cable guides and filling a couple of little dints so fresh paint is a must.

A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Re: First job was sorting some new decals for the frame. I already have a brand new set of decals for a mk2 trailstar but they are different to those fitted to the mk1. They are the same size however so using cutting edge technology (tracing paper, a scanner, google images and microsoft paint)...

A teenage dream! 1998 DMR trailstar project

Hi Guys, With winter coming up fast I needed a project to keep me entertained so after a bit of eBay trawling I turned up this......... It's a 1998 DMR trailstar. If my inner bike nerd is correct then the BMX bb, lack of disc mount and sticker instead of metal head badge means this is one of...

    Handsome Dog Rockstar + Upgrades

Re: It was a great bike until I stupidly fitted a massive IRC kujo (remember them) rear tyre. It didn't fit properly and a slight wheel buckle made it buzz the frame. It wore a slight groove into the chainstay which caused it to snap one day jumping stairsets.

    WTB 26" Chrome Jump Forks

Re: I have a set of 26" handsome dog chromoly forks with V brake bosses I would be willing to sell. Unfortunately I don't want to split them from the matching polished alloy rockhound frame they are currently fitted to. If you want the lot I would take £60 for the frame/fork and woodman...

    Retro commuter/gravel grinder build

So I have the option of a 12.5 mile tarmac commute or a different route that is 15 mile and 25% tarmac to 75% gravel river bank. I've had roadies and hated them so decided I needed a retro mtb in my life. I've always loved the look of older bikes so hit eBay. This is what I found. £200...

    Handsome Dog Rockstar + Upgrades

Re: Oh wow. I used to ride trails in my youth on a camouflage ddg shooter from star bikes in Nottingham. Me and my mates considered power pro's as disposable. Ride em for a few months until the taper rounded off them get a new set in a different funky anodized colour.

    1997 Ridgeback Mountain Sport value

Hey guys. First a little back story. I'm building a commuter out of a Kona Koa (which I'll post once the build gets underway) and I needed wheels and a drive train. I found this for sale and it must have been quite top end in its day. My googling shows the group set to be m569 which dates the...

1995 (ish) KHS Montana for sale

Re: It's most definitely diy. It's brush painted hammerite but not a bad job. I've had a play tonight and fitted proper grips, a low rise stem and racier seat and took the bell/speedo/specialized stickers off. I kinda like it now. If I don't get any interest I'll keep it for running around town on.

1995 (ish) KHS Montana for sale

Hi Guys, This is my first (and probably only) post here so I apologise in advance for that. I am a mountain biker but I like my modern stuff and feed my retro habit with lugged steel road bikes. I'm here because I did some free work for an old boy and as payment he pulled this out his shed and...
