Hi Guys,

This is my first (and probably only) post here so I apologise in advance for that. I am a mountain biker but I like my modern stuff and feed my retro habit with lugged steel road bikes. I'm here because I did some free work for an old boy and as payment he pulled this out his shed and gave it to me. My research shows it is some version of the KHS Montana from the mid 90's, it has been repainted at some point and specialized decals added. The guy said it was around £900 new and then an extra £300 for the pace forks. You guys will have a much better idea what your looking at but I think a fair price would be around £150 plus I would post within the uk for an extra £25. Everything works fine and all bearings are smooth etc. He obviously looked after it well and most parts look original. Also comes with a grease gun and spare elastomers for the forks.

Not sure if it's just me but the photo's aren't working

Re:

yeah I know. I'm struggling to make it work. I tried to post images using the Img button with a link to my drop box account photos but it hasnt worked. Any advice how to get the photos up?

In construction and geometry looks exactly like my Montana Comp - 1995 (weirdly, that I've re-painted black very recently). These are lovely frames. Underrated I think. I'm not looking, but to anyone thinking of buying - be aware that these frames have a 1 inch 'JIS' steerer tube. It's not a problem. The difference is so minimal between the JIS and ISO(?) I just sanded down the inside of the frame a little to give me more headset options. Wonder whether the paint job was powder coat or just a DIY? Good luck with the sale.

Re:

It's most definitely diy. It's brush painted hammerite but not a bad job. I've had a play tonight and fitted proper grips, a low rise stem and racier seat and took the bell/speedo/specialized stickers off. I kinda like it now. If I don't get any interest I'll keep it for running around town on.

Re:

to add another imponderable to the identity of this........
I'm a bit of a KHS freak and have got montana comps, pro's and teams from '93-'95. All the frames are identical except for the tubing used for the front triangle (comps are True Temper AVR, and both the pro and team are lighter TT OXII Ultra). If you stripped the paint off them then there is absolutely nothing to tell them apart at all.

SO - it could be a montana pro or team. But it could also be a comp.

Whichever it is - they are great frames. I tend to ride a KHS in preference to any of my other 'fancier' bikes - because they ride superbly.
