I asked the seller of the ebay kilauea the following: "Just to confirm, where you have measured it from the centre of the BB to the top tube- is that to the bottom or the top of the top tube?" and he said: "top of the tube- someone else has commented that it could be a 18" as Kona...

Sorry, I'm getting confused here. When Anthony said "it's 18inch" I thought he was talking about the explosif I was interested in. The ebay advert for the 1998 kilauea said it's been measured from the centre of the BB to the toptube, it doesn't say whether that is the top or bottom of the...

O right, how do you know that? I saw they had an 18" for sale a while ago but presumed this was an altogether different frame as they said this one was in excellent conditon. I think the 18" had a ding in the top tube.

The seller has had a change of heart and has decided to keep it after all. Shame, if the condtion really was good I think I would have bought it. I might take a punt on that 16" 1998 kilauea on the bay at the moment. Ben

Why is the cut off date 1997 for being retro? Did things suddenly change in the industry around this time  ? Am I going mad, where :? ?

There was no way I was going to pay nigh on £80 for that frame before postage / swingining by Tiverton. I went up to £65. The seller seemed pretty knowledgable re: measurements and savvy about bikes. He/she was pretty unhelpful about taking the other measurements though to enable me to confirm...

Thanks and wow, that looks Really nice. I was thinking of riding mine fully rigid, or will I be shunned for that also :) ? Ben

Lol! We'll see how this auction goes first! The 1997 is full columbus max tubing no? Is that the pick of the bunch or is the 1998 better? Hmmm, who need Christmas anyway. But.... this bike started out as just a comuting/pub bike  lol. Ben

Someone has offered me a 1997 17" explosif on here but it's too much for me atm. What year was your exploif Stevo? Were both bikes fully rigid or hard tails? Did the explosif just feel too stiff. the geometry is pretty similar no? Ben

Your absolutely right about it being an option, thanks. I'm going to swap all the bits over from my current Kilaeau anyway (xt 27 speed, p2s etc) so a complete bike isn't a selling point for me. I will then sell my 19" frame on here :D . Here it is. Although it has a few paint chips it is in...

WOW! Thanks guys, really helpful. Questions have been sent. Re: the Lava Dome. Thanks a lot but I love my Kilauea- Stevo is right about it being nimble and light. I just need a smaller one. I'm going to hold out for a 17" but appreciate I may be waiting a while. Man I love this forum-...

:D Fair point. Are you confident that it is '96 though and therefore only 1"?

Do you think the colour of the bike on ebay looks more turqouise than the one in the brochure? If it is indeed a 1996 with 1" headset it's sadly no good for me. I'd like to be able to go 1"1/8th a-head. Ben

Just seen this :D : http://www.ebay.com/itm/280784486524?ss ... 1423.l2649 I'm going to ask the seller whether it is A-head or not and overall condition (cracks etc) bar the seat tube of course being stuck. Obviously I'm keen to ensure 100% it is 17 ". Were konas of this era just measured...

Thanks Jones, top answer. Ben Edit. Sorry Woz, I missed your post. Are you saying that in your opinion seat tube length is irrelivant and that top tube is the one to consider? Cheers Ben

My mother has a 1999 nunu (I think it is anyway- it's a goldy/yellow) in size 16". Is frame sizing fairly similar between slightly ealier kilaueas? I just found it a little small tbh although and didn't swap the stem or anything- I just whacked the seat up. If geometry is similar I think it's...
