French vintage ride - May 2016

Re: Hi Chris / Mike, I will probably camp for the weekend - I'm happy to organise something - if you're interested? Dinan is a great place to visit in itself and there are a good number of sites around - saying that there might even be camping specifically for the event - I'll do a bit of...

Re: Hi, Thanks for input - I'm not going to take a chance on the frame - too many discrepancies, things don't quite add up.

    Fondriest with Reynolds 753?!

Hi all, I have a chance to buy a very nice Fondriest frameset - looking at the photos there is definately a Reynolds 753 sticker on the seat tube, however, there's also a Columbus sticker on the forks! Anyone know if Fondriest ever produced frames in 753? I've done the usual searches but come...

AAARRGHHH! Have I got the age all wrong?

Re: I have a 1982 Courtois with its original Spidel front derailleur - I know that the Spidel FD was a re-branded Simplex, - but at least its correct period. Not sure if brazings for f. derailleurs were standard at that time - as this one appears to be bolted directly to the frame! Dave

I'm in Brittany, approx. 20 mins North of Loudeac - the PBP comes thru my village - I passed a guy having a kip at the side of the road yesterday - it might have been Bugloss! The first riders were coming thru early on Monday morning but the majority have come thru today, I heard that the...

    Hercules Hustler

Wow, I've just had a flashback to the mid-seventies!! This was my first "proper" racing bike and I loved it - same colour spec etc. I was 12 or 13 years old and I bought it off a mate, sadly at that age I out grew it very quickly! Thanks for posting.

    Mercier Special Tour de France.

Re: I used to have one in blue - mine was from the late 60's / early 70's all lower end chrome parts and cotter pins! Mercier used the "Special Tour de France" marketing ploy for years and they are quite common here. Yours is a late one - I've never seen one from the 80's. It looks in good...

Holdsworth Nuovo Record - warts "n" all...

Hi I bought this Holdsworth Nuovo Record 25" frameset in early 1982 - I was 18 years old with a few bob in my pocket - bought from Hallam Cycles of Bentley, Doncaster for around the £120 mark. That was a lot of dosh back then. So much infact I didn't have a much left to fit it out with! The...

    Tandem Frame damage advice needed.....

Hi All, My error - its the steerers seat tube - if that makes any difference! I'm weighing in at a paltry 12.5 Stones! And I REALLY wanted to get some use out it this summer (if we get one!).

    Tandem Frame damage advice needed.....

Hi all, Just picked up this early 90's tandem - tubing is Reynolds 531c. As you can see in the photo the stokers seat tube has been damaged while attempting the removal of the seat post. I will get it repaired but would prefer to wait 'til winter to strip it etc. What I really want to know is...
