Just been watching mountain bike explosion video that someone has kindly uploaded to YouTube. Circa 1993 with plenty of bikes, faces on the scene and proper riding made a great watch.

I'm running mc40 stx rc v brakes/ levers on my fire mountain commuter, they have great feel and power. The pad mounts are the same as standard cantis I have blue koolstops fitted. The bike is full stx rc, lovely groupset imo.

If it's not a screw on 'block' as I call them, it may be an old ug cassette where the smallest sprocket threads onto the freehub. The usual way to remove is with two chainwhips.
