I completely understand your point of view, the frame had already been refinished (it was silver once upon a time) and my aim was to build a useable older bike. I have however done faithful restorations before but they are just a bit antique and don’t really suit modern riding.

I managed to completely destroy an Ultegra 6500 rear caliper trying to change the bolt, in the end I just used some Tektro R525 Nutted calipers, for a lower spec brake set they’re pretty good plus you don’t need to drill out the frame.

My son bought the bike off fleabay with all the Paul stuff fitted, he really likes the thumb shifters, I’ve ridden it and personally I prefer a decent set of MTB trigger shifters, but that’s just my personal preference.

I’m not sure, I bought the frame used, and it has previously been refinished to a very high standard but I don’t think the colour scheme is original.

I’ve now put a few miles on it and It does ride nicely, very smooth and climbs well.
