can you post a close up shot of the stem area and of the bar end section? What are the diameter and lenght?

do you think the second "crack" I found is also just a supereficial damage?

the inside of the stem looks fine I also found what looks like another crack but the corresponding section on the inside of the stem looks fine too.

I think the stem has been sanded as there are some traces of the black paint left. The decals looks brand new as well.

as my name implies I'm no good at working on bikes.... The bolt securing the stem to the fork is the side one, while the top cap is just a cap, right?

I recently bought a second hand 1995 Hei Hei that came with a Syncros stem. Today I noticed what seems to be a crack. I've drawn a red circle where the crack is. Is this an actual crack or is it just a superficial damage? Should I replace the stem? Bikenoob

I sent an e-mail to tech @ konaworld and the say that 1995 is the year for the bike based on the dropouts, the decal on the seat tube and the 2 down cables. The decals other than the one on the seat tube aren’t original.

The crankset was made by FRM http://www.frmbike.de/catalog/index.php?page=produkte They make bikes and parts for weight conscious racers. I'd love to put a Pace fork but they are not that easy to find and service where I live

Great info andrewl. Being the frame from '94, do you think the Manitou has too much travel and the bike will handle like a chopper?

the only thing that worries me now it the fact that , according to the owner, the fork has 80 mm of travel. I can't really tell which Manitou it is. The 96 model run a Judy with 63 mm. of travel ( I guess) The 97 model run a marzocchi Z1 ( travel?) Do you thing the geometry of the bike...

Is it possible to tell when the frame was made by looking at the serial number? Any idea on the value of the bike, I don't want to be ripped off...
