    Help! Need my forks repaired/replaced!

So, tonight I picked up the Pug from Bicycle Repair Man and he's done a sterling job. Just 72 hrs after I thought all was lost, it's now like this. Phew!

Just to keep it symmetrical thought I'd say hello here too!

    Help! Need my forks repaired/replaced!

So last night took the battered Peugeot to Bicycle Repair Man and he either has some chrome forks that will fit or can order a replacement in. He also reckons that he has a front mudguard as well so I might get it back pretty much as it was before the accident. I dearly hope that will be...

    Help! Need my forks repaired/replaced!

Thanks - sobering thought. Looks like a replacement set is the way it's going anyway. This morning I've spoken to the chap I bought the bike off earlier in the year and he has a few pairs of old forks in his workshop I can go and check out. So I'll be doing that this evening. Fingers...

    Help! Need my forks repaired/replaced!

Hi I come here chastened and extremely mad at myself, but last night the opportunity arose for an hour's ride while my daughter did swimming training. Stuck the bike onto the roof and drove to the pool, deep in conversation with daughter about her impending braces, completely forgot about the...

I hope she left foot brakes as well... Maybe I'll leave the Peugeot and bring the GT instead then, although that's only got 4 gears. Hmm.

It's a great area for driving as well - I can imagine razzing round in a Cooper (I had a '92 Cooper also in red about 10 years ago and always regret selling it). I remember a fantastic road up to St Guilhem Le Desert. Would love to get back there sometime - this time avec mon Peugeot!

Oh and forgot to add, I see that you are from Montpellier - have had some wonderful holidays down that way including my first ever trip to France in 1980 with my parents in a Morris Minor Traveller, ended up at the camp site next to Lac Salagou near Clermont L'Herault. A beautiful part of France...

    My 'new' Peugeot

Yes I've been watching 2cv prices recently as my daughter wants one as her first car (she's still only 11 though). I guess that old car charm costs - its the same with Minis and Beetles. I've got a 1275GT in the garage but am very partial to Gallic autos too!

    My 'new' Peugeot

So I take the Pug to London as I'm overnighting there with work and I usually enjoy cycling in London. After work a gentle spin along the South Bank but coming back to the hotel going across Trafalgar Sq from Whitehall to Charing Cross Rd, a motorist guns for an exit whist still on my right and...

    My 'new' Peugeot

Totally agree - just this weekend I've nipped to the supermarket on it, gone to the park with my daughters, and this evening a quick 20km blast round the lanes. The MKSs do look the part but after many years of only riding mountain bikes and being used to the extra ground clearance I've...

    My 'new' Peugeot

I hadn't seen that site before so thanks a lot - all very useful! I kind of agree with the intro of the site - the Pug I've got is probably one of those low spec'd bikes, but the French do 'utility' really well - look at the Citroen 2CV and H van - so I've no issue with that. And I won't be...

    RetroRoadRide Saturday 2nd June 2012

Hi As a very new newbie, my road riding has only just been restarted after getting a '75 Peugeot 5-speeder (see My 'New' Peugeot in Readers Road Bikes section) whose rides are limited to an hour or so around the lanes near Droitwich after the kids have gone to bed this ride sounds great, but...

    My 'new' Peugeot

My Dutch is a bit rusty but isn't that bike for 8-11 year olds? I had a good scout through those old brochures though and I reckon I've got a modded one of these... http://www.peugeotshow.com/1975nl_07.html There gearshift is in the right place, it's a 57cm frame, the decals all match, the...

    My 'new' Peugeot

Thanks for the nice responses! Gave it a good clean and a lube on Saturday and took the rack off. Cleaned up nice. Took it out for 10 or so miles on Sunday afternoon once the showers looked like they had done for the day. Friends are saying that I should take off the changuard but I quite...

That certainly does look very similar - especaly the chain guard, which is exactly that shape and that is the first similar 5-speed I've seen as well. Good find - thank you!

Merci! Wondered where that second sentence of yours was going for a minute then! But I agree, now I know why I've suddenly started having pastis for breakfast

    My 'new' Peugeot

http://cyclespeugeot.com/files/1974French.pdf This was a nice find - I reckon my bike is the same as the one pictured on page 8, but can't match it to any of the models described at the back. If you're quiet you can actually hear Serge Gainsbourg and I'm still working on the sideburns...
