    1994 Stumpjumper FS build questions

Cheers Loki. Looks like I have to make up my mind between Kinesis Maxlight 400 and 425 then. Would prefer the looks of a segmented fork, though, but they are few and far between, at affordable rates.

    1994 Stumpjumper FS build questions

Cheers Torpedo. Found a double-crown fork for a steal, so I couldn't pass. Still looking for other options too, one of those segmented forks might be nice also, but On-One is perpetually out of stock. Want to keep it simple with a rigid front end. Next question, about the seatpost. Can a 26.8...

    1994 Stumpjumper FS build questions

Re: I should have added that I'm not going for a period correct rebuild, but rather just a retro mtb with 2x10 drivetrain and cantis. Hope that's ok. With that out of the way, I have to confess that I absolutely love the look of old Stumpy "double plate" fork crowns. This fork is the only...

    1994 Stumpjumper FS build questions

Good day, having messed around with various road, cx and in-between builds over the years, I'm looking at my first retro mtb project. With a 94 Stumpy FS I got a frame to my liking, from the era I started riding offroad on an old rigid Peugeot. The thing is, this originally came with a...

Deda Speciale 31 or Newton silver 42cm o-o

Looking for silver Deda Speciale 31 or Newton (Shallow or Deep) handlebars. 42cm outside-outside seems to be the smallest common Deda size, this is the one I'm after. Thanks for reading.

    Looking for 1" threadless fork

Not a retro solution, but the Surly Steamroller fork ticks all the boxes. Alternatively I've found cheap threaded forks, with enough length between crown and thread, to cut away the worm, and run threadless. Or is that insane?

    Looking for 1" threadless fork

This year I want to build an old Ti road frame into a lightweight tourer, gravel, and errands bike. The plan is to run 650b x 38mm tyres or so. Can anyone recommend a 1" threadless fork that either - is of road-ish nature, but wide enough to take bigger tyres, and could be used with long reach...

    Oversized lugged frames?

Finally ... Fratelli Columbus Genius lugged. No idea about the brand, but it ticks all the right boxes. Now, to paint or not to paint? Keep red with all black modern-ish kit, or paint yellow with green kit.

Hinault speaks, and he still rides 300k a week!

But some people just have it in their nature to be laid back  Think Joaquim Rodriguez for example, it's not that he wouldn't show any emotion, or come across media-trained or unnatural. He's just always ready to poke some fun at himself, even when facing bitter defeat. (No disrespect...

Whats better to train on a heavy or light bike ??

Then the known advice is not entirely flawless ;-) It's a well accepted approach in many different sports to start preparing for an event using a more widely spread variety of activities and workouts, and then successively over the months train more specifically for the event in question. Once...

Does anyone ride Retro and Modern?

Well I'm not medially inclined, but did he say it was about the vibrations in particular? I can not imagine the "baseline pressure" on the sitting area and adjacent parts to be much different between bikes, as different as they might be regarding their dampening characteristics. (Think riding on...

Hinault speaks, and he still rides 300k a week!

+1 daugs. When does the racing season start nowadays (Tour Down Under?) and when did it start back then? Sure a handful makes good money. Many others (and don't get me started about Pro Conti and lower leagues) spend a few hard years in the peloton, and then have to struggle finding a new...

    Alternative to gatorskins?

Conti 4 Seasons have been serving me quite well in the 28mm labelled version, never a flat. Used Duranos before, can't fault them either, only a single flat ever I think, next to Lake Como, so at least I got to fix it with a view. Would recommend 25mm versions or bigger of either, so you can...

Colnago Precisa straight -- when was it introduced?

Slowly starting to look around for parts to build up my Colnago Master Piu. Period correctness would be great, if it's not all too expensive, so I'm wondering, when the first year of the straight chromed Precisa forks might have been. (Campagnolo Record) 7 speed or 8 speed era? Many thanks.

    1" carbon steerer - 1" traditional stem

While I have been preloading ahead headsets with a C clamp when lacking an appropriate expander plug, I would not feel safe riding a quill stem in a carbon steerer. Maybe try to find another fork?

Olmo "Super Light" Columbus Genius info?

Can anyone shed some info on the Olmo "Super Light" model/frame. There is not a whole lot of info online, apparently. Was it a high end bike it its day? Genius tubing indicates it was positioned toward the upper end of the range. Many thanks.
