    453 tubing

    453 was good stuff. My Reynolds brochure shows it as stronger than generic CRO-MO and equivalent in strength to 501 and about 10% weaker than 531. It was typically available as single butted main frame tubes only so it ended up teamed with who knows what in a lot of frames.

    Maillard Heliomatic tool

    cycletothesea- The Helico lock ring can be removed by CAREFULLY using slip jawed pliers and a very light hand. The ring is easily deformed due to its aluminium construction. If you are going to use the system, invest in the tool but shop around - those prices are excessive.

    sany- You may want to check Legnano and Bottechia. Legnano, especially, used Falck tubing extensively with that style of seatstay joint. It's a lovely frame. I hope you discover its origins.
