I think I used 800 grit paper to remove that lettering. Dulls the black paint a bit but looks a lot better than the gaudy white lettering.

Re: Re: I agree. I've always put them in front on standard 80mm reach stems for the same reason. That looks like a shorter stem and the cable bend behind the stem to top tube would be too tight for my liking.

Very Nice! Got a soft spot for the Arabesque stuff as I had it on an Falcon Majorca I bought new about 1983. Don't know how it got on there, might have been an LBS special build.

Thanks Meejoir. I used 'Nitromors' paint stripper. It took about 2 or 3 applications to get most of it off. The Nitromors was an old can that had dichloromethane as the active ingredient. The current stuff has been reformulated without it so I don't know if its any good now. I found a...

Almost finished. Just a few things like bar tape and chainstay protector still to do. I changed the stem to an SR Custom which I think was originally fitted. The Kalloy stem that came with the bike looked wrong and wouldn't go low enough. I also put a Turbo saddle on it.
