    pressie for Sprog

Re: That's a possibility. I've seen a few for sale which have looked good but I think they've been 18 inch.

    pressie for Sprog

Looking to buy a vintage rigid steel Mountain bike in good condition size 20.5 inch or 21 inch with similar geometry and umph as my 1998 eight speed rigid mango coloured Stumpy. It's for my son but he's 6 2 and mine is too small for him at 18 inch which is a pity because I have too many bikes...

    Chainset, PowerPro Blue

FRA PowerPro chainset 42/32/22, 175mm cranks. Taken off my Stumpjumper so perhaps 10 years old. Big ring - some usage left. Middle ring - no usage left. Little ring - good. Cranks, blue, good with scuff marks. Collection only £5. I can't load photos so PM me with email address.

Thanks. Didn't notice the previous post.

    Rourke 853 21" 1996 sold

Re: Could you please give me a few details about the bike. Assume that you are speaking to a 10 year-old who knows little about bikes but English is his first and only language. 1 Would it fit someone who's 6 2? (I believe the answer is Yes) 2 Is it possible to raise the front bars a bit? The...

    Ugly modern bikes

I find it surprising that bike designers can get it so wrong. They seem to be designing bikes for 12 year-olds. Do they ever ask grown-ups what sort of bikes they want?

Top Retro Rigid Mountain bikes Makers

Thanks History Man. I had seen the Roberts and Rourke and they are lovely bikes. I've been tempted by the Roberts but I think I'll wait a while. My son now tells me that a purchase can wait until he lives outside London in the "countryside" which apparently is a two-year plan, otherwise I'll...

Top Retro Rigid Mountain bikes Makers

Thanks for the responses so far. I've got 1998 rigid Stumpjumper and I love it. All my bikes are in steel, vintage and new, and that's my preference. I've offered to buy my son a bike and that's why I'm doing my homework. He's had a rigid mountain bike in the past and he prefers straight bars...

Top Retro Rigid Mountain bikes Makers

Apart from the custom-made mountain bikes like those made by Roberts and Yates are all retro steel and aluminium rigid bikes much of a muchness or do some makes stand out in terms of build-quality and componentry? I appreciate that there will be different views on this. What are the makes which...

Why aren't good new retro rigid mountain bikes still made?

Can semi-slicks be fitted to a 2013 Genesis Fortitude Race?

Why aren't good new retro rigid mountain bikes still made?

Thanks for that. Aesthetically I find the 700mm wheel looks too big and the 26 inch just acceptable but then I'm into Moultons!

Why aren't good new retro rigid mountain bikes still made?

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a new, good quality, retro, traditional, rigid mountain bike with triple chainrings? I've read somewhere that some people who want one buy hardtails and change the front forks to a rigid which is extraordinary if true. If you could buy one it would...

Will my son inherit my Stumpy?

Re: Thanks for that. Food for thought.

Will my son inherit my Stumpy?

With his usual tact my son has expressed a wish to inherit my Stumpy when I go on that never-ending ride in the sky. It's an 18 inch 1998 rigid Stumpy in good nick. He would probably be better accommodated on a 19 inch - he says he's 6 2 but I think he's only 6 1, but it's an 18 inch which is...

    98 Stumpjumper

That Stumpy is exactly the same as mine but in better condition. Exactly the same colour. Mine has the original Richey bars. I didn't have the cleated pedals. Surprisingly according to BikePedia 1998 and 1997 Stumpjumpers were hard tail and the last rigid was 1996 but the colours then were...

    1998 Rigid Stumpjumper

Making progress. Just bought a NOS Deore XT chainset 175mm 22/32/44 square taper 8 sp model FC-M7394. Although not what was on originally it looks good and is 1998 vintage the year of my Stumpy. If I hadn't got it I would have gone with the Spa Cycles XD-2 with custom TA silver retro chainrings...

    1998 Rigid Stumpjumper

Found the original saddle which I took off a couple of years ago. It looked severe but was surprisingly comfortable. There's a two inch split up the middle and there are splits in the black plastic on the RHS. Specialized logo underneath with "Total Flex Control" and TFC and Revo in yellow...
