Powder coated. Apparently they blast them off, prime and then powder coat - seems like the most robust option for forks. Will do re the 'after' pics. I'll check headset as you suggest. Cheers BB

Here are a couple of pics of the forks - surprised they have got this scabby. I know the bike is 18 years old but the paint on the frame is very good, almost like its a tougher paint, or perhaps just better preparation / primers etc?
