    Kona Project Two Steerer Tube

Does anyone know whether the steerer tube (below the threads) should be smooth or doesn't it matter? Reason I ask is I recently had my P2's powder coated, they look great but the steerer tube is now a slightly coarse finish, due no doubt to the sand blasting process. Does the outer wall of...

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Anthony - good point... I received the correct '91 decals from Gil yesterday, and very nice they are too. Got the ful set including frame etc as I plan to get that done next year, though thinking of getting that done in white, hence Gil suggested changing the white parts of the decals to a...

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Powder coated. Apparently they blast them off, prime and then powder coat - seems like the most robust option for forks. Will do re the 'after' pics. I'll check headset as you suggest. Cheers BB

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Here are a couple of pics of the forks - surprised they have got this scabby. I know the bike is 18 years old but the paint on the frame is very good, almost like its a tougher paint, or perhaps just better preparation / primers etc?

Interesting what you say re the manitou's, could well be a 2000 then. From the relatively sparse info I've found on the web, I thought 2002, but hey I'm happy with 2000 - just makes it more of a classic! Friend of a friend bought it new (not sure how much they were then), hardly used it, and...

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Hi jerky et al, thanks for responses, yes all very simple when you just give it a go - always been afraid to do much more than changing a mech or upgrading brakes etc for fear of buggering something up, but it's hardly like having a poke around in your cars ECU is it...??? Must be more...

Advice please - 1991 Kona Cinder Cone

Let me know how you get on with the BB change, as its something I'll be doing as well on my 91 CC before too long, and which UN54 version you went with? What are you planning to do with the grease nipple as you won't be needing it with the UN54 obviously? Leave in place or remove and fill...

Hi, just acquired the above to keep my 1991 Cinder Cone company. Think it's a 2002 but not sure. ** Here are a couple of pics of the old beatie, still got a few smal jobs to do, get it set up a little better for my size/weight etc, but generally pleased with my £325 investment** Anyone got...

Advice please - 1991 Kona Cinder Cone

Hi, this should answer some of your queries re factory spec, '91 CC's take a 26.4mm seatpost, quire difficult to find now. http://www.konaretro.com/articles/catal ... Outer3.jpg Surprised your's is red, I thought the '91's were painted in a kind of bronze metallic as standard, or the...

    kirbdugs kona cinder cone (white)

Kirbdug More than one coincidence reading through that thread... I spoke to 1st Choice yesterday re powder coating my P2's, sounded pretty clued up re frames/forks, said he did a lot of them - looking at your CC I can see he was right, very nice. I'm in the process of 'refreshing' my '91 CC...

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Hi Cheesey, thanks for reply. Just to confirm, I remove allen bolt from impact completely, then unscrew race, and the fork should drop out? Do I need any special tools for removing the fork crown? Cheers BB

Fork Removal - P2's on a Kona Cinder Cone

Hi, I want to get my project two's blasted and re-sprayed, probably powder coated. Now, while I've replaced mechs / calipers / cables etc I've never removed a fork from a bike before...so question is - to remove forks for spraying do I need to remove the headset first to get them out? Or do I...

1994 Marin Palisades Trail - change of direction page 3

Hi Ben Quick question for you, you mentioned getting a BBB seatpost from dotbike in 26.4. I'm having the same problem at the moment trying to source a reasonable quality black 26.4 post for my '91 Cinder Cone, but no joy thus far - nobody seems to stock any. Even checked dotbike and the only...
