Wrist watch and timepiece discussion thread

That’s quite an eclectic collection of very nice watches. I especiially enjoyed the Ploprof. I always wondered if anyone actually wore one.

Not that realistic. It can be done, just like you ‘could’ run a new car for 50,000 miles without an oil change. Advisable? Not really. The lubricants used in a watch have a habit of drying out, degrading or otherwise not doing the job as well as they used to after a period of time. 10 years is...

In that case I recommend the twitter account ‘WatchWankers’, im sure you‘ll find it amusing. The watches themselves aren’t the issue. The sort of people who shave the back of their hands for a watch photo or risk losing countless spring pins and spend hours messing about just to strap the...

You could always swap? Rolex supply / demand issues mean your Submariner if in decent condition is still worth comfortably more than you paid for it, and indeed more than a brand new one costs from Rolex, assuming you can convince a dealer to sell you one. You may be able to sell it and buy a...

Snap… Had this since 1996 its in reasonable condition considering I wore it every single day for 25 years. Mind you, it’s the chronological equivalent of Triggers broom, the amount I’ve spent having it serviced and repaired over the years would comfortably have seen me wearing a nice Monaco...

Spec, condition and equipment are exactly as detailed and pictured on page 4. I’d be surprised if it’s done 50 miles since then, and half of those would have been on the other set of 26” wheels...

    GSB's Whyte PRST-4 build

As a business associate of mine once said, everything is for sale. At the right price... He’s a little more mercenary than I am though, I’d only asked him how his wife was...😳 Anyway, the bike is a thing of wonder, and I’ve poured a great deal into it. It’s bloody lovely to ride and to look at...

The one and only USE SUB single sided suspension fork... English, eccentric, an engineering oddity in MTB suspension that actually works. I have two wheels for it, one black and one silver, and as you can see I managed to get a set of crank brothers wheels to fit it too. It‘s had a complete...

No-one that I ever found has them. I actually redrew most of the graphics for the PRST-4 in CAD which was a horrendously laborious process of tracing, scanning, redrawing, printing, dimension checking and general messing around. This wasn’t helped by the fact that I’d never used a CAD program...

Quite. The space available, particularly in the front, is quite limited. The limitation is such that you may even get fouling on the controls or the air valve on some designs. The extra volume shocks are also a no go as the kinematics of this front end are much better suited to a small volume...

    GSB's Whyte PRST-4 build

Re: There’s a great number of ways to set up, but the fact is that you should just use what suits you. I’ve never seen a template, but the rear end of both bikes is identical to Marins of the same period, so if you want one that might be a good place to look. By the time they’d got to PRST-4...

    Whyte PRST/JW Owners

Re: Re: Keep it, you’ll regret it if you let it go... A decent paint job or powder coat, a box full of refreshed parts and it’ll be like a new bike... From the factory, yes. Whyte wanted to highlight the advanced engineering, and so used a ‘high-tech’ (for 20 years ago) metallic silver or grey.
