    Raleigh 853

Cool - I knew it was rare, but not that rare! I've always had a soft spot for Raleigh Reynolds bikes (this is number four in the collection and by far the most prestigious!) - its too small for me, but had to have it anyway - think it'll be fine with a longer stem and seatpost (hopefully)

    Raleigh 853

Bagged this for the princely sum of £97... bought it on a whim as it was local, knowing I could always use the forks, XT thumbies and the wheels on some other pending builds but now I've got it home, its too nice and original to split...just needs a good service and poss new chain/block Bit...

    muddy fox roadrunner

But that's the retro way....as a teen, I remember hooning downhill as fast as possible on a bike at least 6 inches too big (bought for me to "grow into!")... I couldn't reach the pedals properly, just about managed to reach the bars but made sure as hell I didn't crash as there was thought of a...

WTD: Large (21" or bigger) Saracen bike 89-92ish

Right def need to get me another Saracen. Looking for a complete bike with good paint (no time to build and/or paint) from around 89 to until about 92-ish. Needs to be no smaller than 20", pref 21"+ and am not set on any particular model but not too low-rent (i.e. Tufftrax or better) My...

Which approach next - *Caustic soda victory!*

Agreed. Caustic soda is nasty stuff but quick and easy if you need to repaint anyway. If there is a remote possibility that you won't repaint, give it a few days with a combination of Ammonia and the quill stem method as no damage caused. That's my preferred method, although decent strength...

    Reserve spokes on the chainstay...brands?

Only ones I can think of are the mid-eighties Saracen Conquest (the 531 framed one) and the Raleigh Randonneur (but obviously not an MTB)

Raleigh Deore XT or a Raleigh with some Deore XT stickers..?

Agreed - the Sachs Huret mechs and chainset are a definite low-rent giveaway. Combined with the rolled steel seat post!

    Ltd Edition Raleight Team Mustang

I believe drcarlos is 100% spot on....this is a Ltd Edition Team Mustang. The reason I know is that one of my mates had one bitd (his dad owned the local Raleigh Bike shop) - it was exactly the same as the Mustang everyone else seem to have in those days (the black and white one with the red...

    91 / 92 Saracen Conquest E-Stay

I did ride it with the stem like that, but only a quick jaunt round the block. But twitchy with the short high-rise stem - def one of the first things to change! Maguras are on the list, but hoping to move house next month so trying not to spend much (or anything!), so this is going to start...

NW Area (esp. Manchester) anyone need any bits powdercoating

Yeah, I've never found any of those mythical #25 places either. Cheapest I've found is about #45, but don't mind paying a bit extra for a proven quality. I'll have to check the funds though (missus got me on a budget as supposed to be moving house soon), but I'll PM you soon!
