Turner Sultan Wanted. (Large with 44mm head tube).

Absolutely gutted that my Sultan was stolen from our locked garage on Thursday, along with my old 5 Spot and Solaris. While the Spot and Solaris aren't too difficult to replace, the Sultan is a bit af a rarity. If anyone happens to see my Sultan around I'd appreciate a heads up. Stolen from...

Sunn Revolt GP 18" Fuji SL frame - SWAPPED/GONE!

    Is this still available?

1998 Sunn Revolt flex, 18", project

Re: I'm the lucky chap wot bought it. Anyone know anything about how to service the rear 'shock'. I've taken it apart but can't figure out for the life of me how it is supposed to work. Elastomer seems to be for rebound rather than compression and there's nothing but dried grease on top of...

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Re: Hi Mike, frame builders usually get a torch on it and wreck the paint. I've never damaged a frame using the hack saw trick, I just can't face the agro! Still hoping some magic oil might release it just enough. So you got those Obsys sorted?

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Re: Well, the Crosss has arrived and it soon became apparent that the seat post is seized in the frame. I'm such a mug, this isn't the first time I've bought a bike described as 'in very good condition', only to find a seized seatpost or stem or something that has to be destroyed in order to...

    99 Sunn Cross Un

That was speedy and resourceful! I'll take a measure of the steerer tube and start having a proper think about some replacements.

Holdsworth Special ('79 at a guess?)

Thanks Mike, bikes have come and gone but that Swift always stays - though I think the Special might be a keeper too. I'm having second thoughts about the date though, more like 82 or 83 if the stickers are correct though it may well have had a decent respray at some point. Frame has no bosses...

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Maybe I'll have to invest in some Obsys then, I guess original Sunn rigid forks are pretty tricky to get hold of.

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Re: Mark's hunch was right, I just had a look in the 99 Sunn catalogue and sure enough the standard Crosss had a Manitou Spyder option. Doesn't specifically mention them for the Crosss Un but I guess they're original spec for the bike. Who'd av thunk it - they look so wrong to me!

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Re: I would be interested to know if there was any difference in geometry between the rigid and obsys specced frames, my Xircuit felt very wrong with 65mm travel Marzocchi bombers so I put the stock forks back on. obsys look like they have really low ride height so maybe thats the way forward.

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Re: Thanks Mike, I remember trying a Sunn with Obsys forks back in 98 when I bought the Xircuit - I remember they weren't the best but nice and light. Certainly wouldn't mind giving them a try. Maybe you would take the Manitous in exchange?! Only kidding of course, but seriously...

Holdsworth Special ('79 at a guess?)

Got some time on my hands with rainy day following rainy day so thought it was about time to post this old girl up - my pride and joy. Built up 3 years ago from a decent frame off the bay and a donor bike from the local dump which had a full set of 600 under what seemed like an inch of road...

    99 Sunn Cross Un

Just bought this on ebay. I know its 99 but there's no arguing the retro credentials. Anyway the forks clearly aren't original so I'm after a suitable set of rigids, or low height sus forks if I can get away with it. I had a 98 Sunn Xircuit previously which felt all wrong with the set of...

1986 Raleigh Road Ace (531C, totally original)

I'm going to turn my nice original Road Ace into a hipster fixie is the kind of post to put on LFGSS, not RetroBike :)

    Globe Steel Cycles. Anyone? Anyone?

Picked up this peculiar frame recently and can't find any references to the manufacturer anywhere on the web. Head badge says 'Globe Steel Cycles' but I don't think there's any connection with the current Globe bikes. Seems to be Reynolds 531 with Suntour GS dropouts - same as I've seen on the...

Hi, can anyone recommend some hoods for these old levers (pictured).

Caliper brake upgrade, 84 Raleigh Record Ace

Wheels in the picture are 700c with 23mm tyres. Doesn't look too bad as it is but I am going to fit skinny SKS Chromoplastics in any case. In the longer term I'm going to rebuild the original wheels with new stainless spokes and new tyres. Would be nice to get some 27 x 1 tyres but it seems...

    Reynolds 531 Raleigh Record Ace..C 19??

Agreed. My '84 model (WS4 serial) is identical to this. 531c tubeset which is a nice touch. I guess machines for the 84 catologue would have been built late 83 / early 84 so could be WS3 or WS4.

    Stronglight 99 question

Thanks for that, have ordered as set of bolts. Guess I'm going to need a longer bb axle for clearance now.
