    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

Anyone have any idea how much this bike is worth? Never seen another one for sale, and the only info I've ever found is on nkilgariff.. Need to make room for another steel framed bike!

Just push pedals at the moment. It's rapid! Note the smallish front sprocket haha. It's shredding the brake pads too! Not sure if it's because they're old or quite soft but I've only done about 20 miles riding and they're half worn! I'd like to mirror polish some of the steel bits like I did...

    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

So after a mega busy last few weeks, I'm finally back home. The first day back I put my bike back together again. I didn't get all the work done that I wanted to but I just wanted something to ride! It's so smooth to ride, absolutely solid and screaming out for some dark brown bar...

The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different!)

Re: The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different It's an enduro bike engine, KTM 500 EXC single cylinder. Loads of torque even at low revs!

The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different!)

Re: The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different I'm just itching to ride one again! This one was only intended to be a clean up and a service lol. Slow progress though as we're busy finishing the car for the event in 2 weeks!

The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different!)

Re: The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different Just a little! Using it as a bit of an exercise to see how well I can restore a bike as this and the '54 are the only two bikes I've ever stripped down haha.

The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different!)

Re: The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different I used the polishing wheel and a lot of time! The brakes didn't take too long but the sprockets are taking forever! Everything gets roasting hot too. This restoration relies on machinery rather than old school elbow grease!

The Other Claud Butler (and something a little different!)

So some of you may have seen my old 1950's Claud Butler Coronation which I am restoring. I had to postpone this project whilst I've had to go back to uni to build our Formula Student racing car. During the car build, my little commuter bike got covered in carbon fibre dust and all sorts of...

Armstrong 1953 Restored FIRST RIDE Page 7

Re: Armstrong 1953? Restoration Help/Advice/Abuse Please Very nice! Can see the similarities with my Claud Butler now! Are those Williams cranks? If you need cotter pins I can send you a link. That frame is very nice, looking forward to seeing it when it's built back up. Top work

Armstrong 1953 Restored FIRST RIDE Page 7

Re: Armstrong 1953? Restoration Help/Advice/Abuse Please Really nice bike mate. Get some tin foil on the rust spots, I can see from the pics it will come up a treat! As for colour, it's your bike go with whatever is in your head and keeps you happy. It's your steed after all :-)

    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

Thanks everyone. Annoyingly progress is going to stop for a few weeks as I've got to go back up to Huddersfield for uni and can't bring the bike with me. I'll be bringing some bits to sandblast and polish with me though :-)

    Lemond maillot jaune

That's awesome! The large radii on the frame and that Dura-Ace groupset go hand in hand. Nice bike!

I've gone as far as I dare! Stripped some colour away from the decals on the seat post. Luckily if I wanted to replace them, they're definitely available at hlloydcycles but I won't be doing much more sanding there. It's brought the blue back and doesn't look like a rusty shitheap anymore so...

I've decided I'm going to just clean up what I already have. It'll look too new if it gets repainted and I like the aged look of all the parts. Can't wait to go for a ride on it, depending on the bottom bracket it shouldn't be long now.

    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

I swear this bike must have just been left in a slightly damp shed until I got it. It's in pretty good shape underneath all the rust and dirt. I've not had to touch any penetrating fluids, no sandblasting, no painting and no hard work really. Just wire brushes, emery paper, brasso, water &...

    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

I probably should have just gone down to the local bike shop but I was busy polishing bits and bobs all day! So I've stripped the bike down, just need to get a chain link remover to get the chain off and also need to split the bars from the fork. There's a bit of movement in the bottom bracket...

Awesome, just purchased them so should arrive soon. That wasn't so bad after all. Thanks!

    1954 Claud Butler 'Coronation'

Right, I messed up a bit! I was removing the cottered crank arms and didn't realise how soft the pins were so ended up wrecking the thread on one of them as I hit it out from one side. Does anyone know where I can get a pair of cotter pins? They don't seem that common! I'm guessing there's a...

It was hard to pass it up at that price. Yeah it's a complete bike which is even better. It all looks original except for the added dynamo and it has a Brooks B15 which I don't think was standard. Pretty pleased with how it's cleaning up. I'll get some pics up tomorrow!
