Not sure where the catalogue is at the moment. I'm sure people on here would like to see a photo of the Sachs Hydro pull thingy? How do you come to have one?

Retrobike National Series Rd 1: Lake District ~ Aftermath

Thanks organisers - classic ride and nice company. Bikefood and bottle was an unexpected bonus! So sorry we had to scoot on ahead at Grizedale - had get home before 5 to rescue old folks from babysitting lively kids. Hope you enjoyed the Lawson Park descent as much as we did. Great to see...

Retrobike National Series Rd 1: Lake District ~ 25/02/2012

Thursday afternoon and it is sunny and amazingly warm an hour or so down the road in Preston :-) Any decent tyres will do - mud isn't a problem - most of that route is nice and rocky - think there is just one proper muddy bit in the trees above Lawson Park and that will be downhill so can...

Retrobike National Series Rd 1: Lake District ~ 25/02/2012

Yep - me and Alison will be there. Got to abandon kids with grandparents early morning then scoot up motorway from Preston. If for some reason we haven't made it in time then just set off - we know the route and with +30 group inertia it shouldn't be too hard to catch up :-) I fixed up...

Retrobike National Series Rd 1: Lake District ~ 25/02/2012

Lakes not suitable for singlespeeds? Nah, not normally a problem :-) I can ss UP the Lawson Park bridleway (admittedly with a stop or two to swallow my lungs back down), so coming down it on this ride shouldn't be a problem.......

Retrobike National Series Rd 1: Lake District ~ 25/02/2012

Mentioned it to mrs today and she seemed keen, so if we can sort childcare we'll come up. She'd be riding her Parkpre Ti (she raced elite for them in '95). Has been heavily and regularly used so not many original parts (unless I raid the scrap in the attic). However I'm undecided on what to...

Neo-Retro! E-stay 29er made (mostly) in my garage

Fixed gear? Not really - there is a freewheel hidden in there ;-) You may notice front and rear wheel don't match. It was when I first finished the frame - Hope could do a ready built 29er front wheel but had a bit of brain fade with the rear. So in the end they supplied the Crest rim...

Neo-Retro! E-stay 29er made (mostly) in my garage

OK - some build pics as requested for those that like blobs of brass and lumps of steel. Apologies if they come up huge like the original post - I should really get a flickr account to make a better job of this..... Just had a great day bombing round Grizedale on it - real blast from the past...

Neo-Retro! E-stay 29er made (mostly) in my garage

I've got plenty more pics but they are at home and I'm busy for the next two evenings (checking out high schools for the kids - pah!). If you are desperate then there is a lot of info over on the MTBR framebuilding forum - probably on first or second page titled something like "homebuild e-stay...

Neo-Retro! E-stay 29er made (mostly) in my garage

I must apologise that this bike is "new", but figured it actually belonged here and might be appreciated :) I've been mtbing since 1989 so was around to see E-stays in their shortlived heyday (but never owned one - my fillet brazed Kili Flyer was too nice to replace). So when making my...

The Introduce Yourself Here Thread III

Hello Yet another newbie who should have joined a long time ago..... Kind of decided this was more my place when other forums are full of wiffle about freeriding 5' drops onto flat blah blah blah. First MTB was a Saracen Ltd Edition in 1989 complete with Biopace, 18 speeds and chainstay...

    1" Rigid forks

No worries - I've just measured up and they are only 170mm steerer anyway. Mick

    1" Rigid forks

I've got a hardly used Orange threadless 1" rigid fork. Welded aluminium (polished) with bonded in steel steerer (think they were Aluminium O / E3 vintage so approx 1995 - 96 ish at a guess). Canti mounts only. I'll measure up and take a pic tonight.

    Magura myths

But has anybody ever see the Sachs thing in the flesh being used on a bike??? We were friends with Damian the UK Sachs rep and went to the Sachs sponsored 1995 World Champs (in Germany) yet still never actually saw any! Ironically vee brakes (and SRAM) killed off the Sachs cantis yet a...

    Magura myths

Attached should be a scan of the lesser spotted Sachs Hydro Pull (produced in at least 1994 and 1995 I think).

I'll go up the attic tonight and dig out the sachs catalogue. First post on here and feel useful already!

    Magura myths

Sachs did a hydraulic to cable thingy around 1994ish but it was the other way round - Sachs hydraulic lever, length of hose and remote piston with a cable output. The cable then pulled the canti straddle wire. I've got a picture in an old catalogue somewhere if needed.
