Earlier this year I picked up a 3-speed town bike in immaculate condition. It's not that old (1985 from the Sturmey Archer hub) and rides wonderfully. It's a lower end brand (Focus Cycles) and was ultimately replaced in the bike stable by an older english 3 speed. Here's a poor quality...

Keep an eye out for a used Brooks - I bought a b15 and loved it - I've also just picked up a b17 from a post on another forum for under £30.

So on my old Townsend it's just for effect then! :roll:

My bike has a multicoloured band/tape on the seat tube, as do loads of other bikes I've seen on here and other forums - was this just a fad? (Not my bike.... although wish it was) Example of double bands:

Cheers :) The tyres are a pair of (apparently) NOS from ebay - 27 x 1 with wire rims. They're absolutely tiny!
