So whilst rebuilding the '97 SLs, the cartridge sh*ts (do we use stars on here?) itself and a puddle of foul oil is deposited on the garage floor! Anyone know how much I need to put in when rebuilding the cart and what weight it should be as stock? All info, links to service manuals and advice...

I have front and rear Deore II mechs circa 1988 with 7speed XT thumbies if you are interested. I am in New Zealand though!

Strangely enough there is little/no play in the bushes and there does seem to be oil in the cart (metal) It makes a squelching sound when it's cycled anyway! Will try filling it with 5wt fork oil ;-0. ANy thoughts on grease to lube these babies up?

3. Refill cart - it'll almost certainly have blown How easy is that to do - it all looks pretty sealed up to me. Also what can be used as a Judy Butter substitute - 'I can't believe it's not Judy Butter' or similar.....? Lithium based grease is bad for the seals, right?

Thanks - do they come in a 1 INCH STEERER? I had a lot of trouble finding a half decent fork with a this size steerer! (and don't want to pay 200 quid for a new marzocchi one).

So I'm stripping down my hard to find 1 inch Judy SLs for an inspect of the springs, elastomers etc. This is the state of the lower stancions - serious corrosion of the anodising! Any point rebuilding them? - bearing in mind they're just for a play/hack bike so don't have to work amazingly well!

This is my IBOC circa '89, given the SS treatment - plus 1" threadless P2s...
