    creak creak creak creak

Sounds to me like you've over-tightened the sfot metal cranks onto the hard metal square-tapered axle. Thus causing the "holes" in the crank arms to splay outwards. Once this happens the creaking is terminal I'm afraid and a new chainset and/or left hand crankarm is required.

    eggbeater problems?

I have tried to get on with my Candy C's but in vain. My biggest gripe is the engagement. With all of my other spds (mainly Shimano) I clip straight in but with the eggbeater I'm stamping about all over the place. I even bought some beaterblocker shoe saving plates to make the cleat stand out...

Which colour, red or blue for the Cannondale?

Look at Derek Purdy's Guide to Mountain Biking in Northumberland if you can. There's what I guess was his bike at the time against a sign saying "Bloody Bush 1 mile" and it's gorgeous! Blue Headtube and forks fading into white centre then fading into red for the most of the rear stays...

    And today's tip find is:

Whoa there....that brings memories of my first MTB come flloding back! I had a very similar Dawes Tracker in green and white. Like most of us here, of a certain age, you never forget your first offroader. The Tracker cost £259.99 from Halfrauds, underwent many an upgrade (including my...

Full sus or hardtail or rigid

Had a full susser for a year but couldn't stand the extra weight so ditched it for a Norco all-mountain hardtail, not much better but I do appreciate the Hopes do stop me flying off the trail sometimes! My favourite bike over the last five years is my Cannondale rigid bike, it's set up for a...

    Wheelies....I wish I could!

Cheers Exbiker, you've just reminded me of Stan (R.Hanley) of Wideopen passing his cycling proficiency test at the school open day on his GT Pro Performer. No certificate but it was a proud day for the BMX "geeks" as the crowd gave him a round of applause when he completed the course hand...

Most annoying parts to fit !?!

Not cycling related but a nightmare none the less. Other half went shopping leaving me to do some DIY job or other. As I drank the last of my brew (tea) I wondered innocently what was under the top end of my electric screwdriver. I prised the big clip out of the top and Black and Deckers best...

199? Dekerf spotted in Pemberton, BC

Good grief! I thought the first pic was bad but then I scrolled down to see those outrageous bars! That's a lovely frame begging to be stripped and rebuilt. Little post it notes offering immediate cash and my mobile number spring to mind!

BoTM May 2008 - GT Special - POLL NOW UP

It has to be Crayon's Avalanche for me. Every year a crowd of us do a three day Sustrans type Tour (24 of us this year) and every year old Frankie the plumber grinds out the course on his Avalanche that looks like Robinson Crusoe's bike. Last year he'd even fashioned a pannier rack out of a...

    Best bike related present?

I got a set of ICE Tools long allen keys with built in grips and would recommend them to anyone who likes to tinker. They've got rounded heads so every job is so much easier. I wanted them for years but was put off by the £30 price but looking back they would have paid for themselves over the...

Spokes and where to get them

I've got 64 DT Swiss with silver nipples sitting in the garage from an ebay seller who chucked them in with a pair of Mavic 717 rims I bought. Tenner & free postage to anyone on the forum. Drop me a line if you need me to measure them.

    Why no love for Cannondale?

I love my 1995 M900, I paid £45 on fleabay for it and even with a dodgy black spray job Iknew I was onto a winner. I built it up with odd parts I had in the garage, commuted on it for a year and toured for three days, Whitehaven to Newcastle to make sure it was good for long Sustrans type...

Back to riding rigid...what bliss !

I resisted suspension for years until curiosity got the better of me. Probably £1000 worth of experimenting, lockout, remote lockout long travel, short travel, Rapid wind down, linkage, coil, elastomer, air etc etc... Last year I even tried full suss...and you know what? It's taken five years...

    The Serpentdale is finished...

Here's a pic of my 1995 Cannondale (1995) in serpent met. green, full details in gallery. Thanks to all those folks who offered ideas on how to get the bolt out of the wishbone but I've admitted defeat and the LBS are repairing it on Friday.
