Mine is original but as I have never removed a bottom bracket I dont even know how they are constructed. There is too much crap etc on mine at the moment to see clearly how it comes apart. I guess it will become obvious once the BB is cleaned up?

TallPaul Why was the BB a sod to remove? I am doing a 1993 Lava Dome and thats the final thing to remove now the dreaded stuck seat post is nearly out! Cheers Dave

Ok, I am 2/3 of the way down and just taking my time. Looks like its going to work! Will need to get a file to get rid of excess alloy as the drill bit is a few mm smaller than the seat tube. Phew! Off to get painted soon I hope! Thanks again for help! Dave

OK! I have found a chap that has a pilar drill in his workshop. I have bought a couple of large drill bits and aim to clamp the bike into the pillar drill and simply drill out the alloy seatpost. Has anybody tried this? In theory it should be an easy job as the alloy is so soft. I would...

Whats the trick with coke? Fill the tube up and leave it for a few days? One of my engineers at work is suggesting blowing the alloy out with a plasma torch? Surely this will blow holes in the Steel frame too? What a nightmare! The most simple jobs turn into nightmares! Was hoping...

Folks I am having a real problem with the seat post on my 1993 Lava Done. Need a back up plan in case the frame gets damaged beyond repair due to the removal os post. Has anybody got: 1993/1994 Lava Dome/Cinder Cone frame or complete bike? Cheers Dave

Yup, thats what mine looks like only with less damage to frame! Was starting to loose my rag on sunday with it so decided to halt the proceedings and watch the GP instead! WIll post pics next time i am working on the bike! Might be easier to source another frame................hmm...
