Nice bike, and impressive reproduction of the decals.
I've a 1996 Kilauea (bought since new and still ride) and have the bug to give it some serious TLC. So question I have is, who is Gil to get some wonderful new decals.

10 months since purchase and 6 months since the last update - more progress!

I've decided that maybe the paint isn't so bad. So i've stripped the original decals and plan to touch up the worst of the rust patches and freshen up the finish before applying the repro decals. I've also assembled some components for the build and have a full XTR M900 groupset which I'm toying with fitting. Anyhoo, enough words; here's the all important pictures:

I think you've made a good decision in not getting it resprayed & the shiny M900 should look great with the Syncros too. Good Work Sir!

Why was the BB a sod to remove?

I am doing a 1993 Lava Dome and thats the final thing to remove now the dreaded stuck seat post is nearly out!

I expect it was the original one.

Mine is original but as I have never removed a bottom bracket I dont even know how they are constructed.

There is too much crap etc on mine at the moment to see clearly how it comes apart.

I guess it will become obvious once the BB is cleaned up?
