Thanet Silverlight - worth selling the car for?

Re: Sure you can, there are more actually. Bring a suitcase of tenners and I'll throw in the Silverlight.

Thanet Silverlight - worth selling the car for?

Re: Daccordimark writes: "Those elements don't seem to add up to a coherent design and you end up with a flexible frame that has the potential to be a handling nightmare at speed with a touring load on board. When all is said and done the bicycle is a machine and all the fancy design elements...

Thanet Silverlight - worth selling the car for?

Re: There many reasons to own an old bike, the fact that a Silverlight is a tad flexible shouldn't put anyone off owning one. They are a good looking bike and lot of work went into making them. They were always meant as a tourer and actually ride nicely, stable and comfortable. You may not win...

I get mine from Madgetts in Diss, (also the best wheel builder I've found).

    27 1 1/8" Tyre in the UK

Panaracer Tour Guard come in 27 x 1, 1+1/8 and 1+1/4. I pay about £25 each, they are quite light with good puncture protection. I find them a bugger to fit.

    Reynolds frame info needed please

Reynolds made tubes in other grades, not just 531. A frame, its forks and stays may all be 531 or only the main triangle, the forks and stays being made from a lesser grade tubing. 531 may be butted or not. Forks are taper gauge with a butt at the top, stays are not butted. Your bicycle may have...

Sad little article about the closure of the Holdsworth shop

Re: Sad little article about the closure of the Holdsworth s Oh dear. I have a Holdsworth Italia made by Reg Collard in the early sixties out the back of the Putney shop, and a very nice frame it is too. He went on to make the Holdsworth team bikes one of which is owned by a friend of mine. We...

How many lives do you need out on the bike these days??!

As a relatively recent convert to cycling but a long term driver I am surprised at a lot of the decision making I see while out on my bikes. I think that the majority of people do make an effort not squeeze (or just mow down) cyclists. Some are more positive than others, I get nervous when...

    Roadie ebay madness

They are both early examples and in good condition, but even so it seems a strong price (unless you're the seller). I bought an identical lever for £50 the other day at a jumble and I have early examples of the mech. I bet that I don't get that sort of money when I put them on ebay.

    Shellac for Cotton Bar Tape

I have used Mylands Superfine White polish. After 10 (ish) coats it looks pretty good. It does darken the colour of the tape.

That was a cheap 1958 Mercian Superlight

I couldn't resist at that price. I don't understand why people don't value them more highly; every Mercian I've ridden has felt good. If it had been a vibrant Hetch or Holdsworth Whirlwind it would have been four times as much. Their loss. Some time ago I had Tom Crowthers own Superlight from...

    Help identifying a Freddie Grubb

Have just joined so apologies for a late reply. I have three Grubb 'Perfections' or at least I think I have. Its difficult to identify the different lugs. One sold to me as an Exquisite is on the Classiclightweights site and has quite different lugs to yours. I have another Grubb which I take to...
