27 1 1/8" Tyre in the UK

Hello,

Can anyone offer any pointers to a supply of 27 1 1/8" Tyres in the UK? Preferably amber wall. I have found a few from US sites but the shipping cost are too expensive. The only other thing that I have found has been the Continental ones but they due look very modern and may be a bit at odds with the bike.

The bike is new to me but is an 80s Raleigh with 27 1 1/8" tyres with perishing walls. I'm reluctant to try 27 1 1/4" tyres as the fit (with mudguards) looks pretty snug at the moment.

Appreciate any help.

Hi,

Welcome to Retrobike. I think there are Gatorskins available but they are all black. I will check around and bet back to you.

Cycle King do a 27" x 1" whitewall tyre branded Sava I've tried them for my hack bike, they've been on for 6 months and they're ok for cheapies at a tenner(not punctured yet!)
good luck

Panaracer Tour Guard come in 27 x 1, 1+1/8 and 1+1/4. I pay about £25 each, they are quite light with good puncture protection. I find them a bugger to fit.

Thanks for the responses so far., very helpful. I'll take a look at the links.

Where do you find the Panaracer tyres for £25' is that a local bike shop?

Without googling (obviously) is Diss a real place or short for somewhere?

Diss is in Norfolk. Quite a big town as well. Schawble do a variety of 27 1 1/8 tyres and so do Conti. The Gator skins, ultrasport and the tour rides to just name three come in this size.

Malcolm,

Thanks for that. As well as selling great stuff you provide geographical advice as well - it does not get much better!!! I am still rather pleased with the HS!!!
