Re: The Super Record would be a bit heavier if was made for current frame sizing. Much longer of course but also would have thicker walls.

The white frame looks about 57cm but the purple one I guess is 62cm. One is bigger than the other by at least 5cm!

    SKS Rennkompressor, Review And Modifications.

Mine in over 25 years old and looks the same as Gazelleer's, with the same push on adapter. The rubber washer wore out years ago, must be 15, and I haven't used the pump since then. I bought a spare from a bike shp but it didn't fit. I always have a Zefal HPX on my bike so I use that. The gauge...

SPEC hand built in Brentwood essex

Re: Spec Cycles was/is a bike shop in Benfleet, Essex. Apparently it, along with several other shops, were: I don't know if they are still in business or not. My guess is they bought in their own branded frames.

Joey McLoughlin’s Ex ANC Halfords Team Bike

If this is going to be a display bike only (which I don't disagree with), can I suggest putting the saddle down and raising the stem a bit. That would make it look much better and be more accurate in regards to bike and frame sizing back then.

Tricky tubular puncture (hole at valve, can't find hole)

Re: On one tub, there is a hole in the middle of the tread right at where the valve is. And that is where bubbles are coming out and not anywhere else so my guess is that's the puncture hole. On another tub, there is a gap between the valve and the casing so bubbles are coming out of there...

Tricky tubular puncture (hole at valve, can't find hole)

Re: I should have mentioned I'm talking about about a proper repair, ie patching the inner tube. I am not going to squirt some nasty gunk inside my nice tubs!

Tricky tubular puncture (hole at valve, can't find hole)

Hello all, I wonder if anyone's tried to repair a tubular that's punctured next to the valve? I suppose it would involve sewing around the valve hole, and the tricky part is how to avoid puncturing the inner tube with the needle. One way I think is to use a very long thread and keep the...

    Old Bike Bit prices

Well, custom frames have certainly inflated a lot in the last 25 or so years. In the late 80s, a 531 custom frame would have been around £200-250 (as rough example). But the equivalent now would be nearer £900 (eg Mercian 631 tubing £750 + VAT).

    modernising an old bike

You can use nice stuff in winter and doesn't mean it'll get thrashed, you just have to do more maintenance and more cleaning. You could carry on using the wheels or get another pair for tyres, I don't agree with rebuilding with modern looking rims for use on an old bike.

Help Please - SLX Tubing ~ Cinelli Lugs ~ No Serial Number

Re: Help Please - SLX Tubing ~ Cinelli Lugs ~ No Serial Numb It looks like something a bike shop would buy in and have their own stickers put on it, ie a bike shop's own brand frame. The forks don't seem to match, they have domed shaped ends but the frame doesn't.

    Campagnolo ID question

They're not finishing caps, they're there to make it easier to tighten your toe straps. Weren't they called toe strap buttons? I think the Campagnolo ones only came with Campagnolo toe straps which came with some of their pedals.

Splitting the road section into a separate site??

I've voted for splitting but I wouldn't be bothered if it stayed the same. I have absolutely no interest in MTBs, actually I don't even like them one bit.

    What cleats/clips for 1987 shimano 105 pedals?

They look like an updated version of the traditional (non-clipless) pedal, with an extra bit at the front to engage a "cleat" that fits 3 bolt Look style shoes. In other words, they're toeclip pedals for use with clipless shoes. I would think you use them in the same way as toeclip pedals and...
